I'm reading "No Easy Day" as it was a Christmas present from my sister. Good read so far. Being they are based at the Dam Neck annex, I got to thinking if I could see their range on google maps. So I looked up Dam Neck annex and looked around and found....... this http://i.imgur.com/xp9ZX.jpg surely they have a cooler range than that. You could do a lot of cool-guy stuff with that facility. |

They build the targets to practice in them.

I would have thought there would have been "more between" the range and everything else around it. As noted by others, this very well could be a naval reserve range used for training cadets for all we know. I'm just going off reading in the book, where the author was talking about how they eat animal crackers and walk to the range everyday. Maybe they aren't in the Annex, who knows? Its not like google maps will have a pin on "DevGru Headquarters" |
| Speaking of building a scene . . . went to Tier 1 out in Memphis last year for remington's silencer shoot. Evidently they had just torn down a middle eastern mock road. There were a few facades laying against each other but you could tell there used to be a city road out in this field |

They train all over the place, shoot houses on various bases, active and static ranges...
Bragg as mentioned has some of THE best ranges I've ever been to. Shoot houses/town on Marine Corps bases are great for training also. Shot with many SEALS at Stone Bay. Variety is the key to get good... Travel, train with other units at their ranges. |

You need a better range than that? That's an awesome range. It's got poppers and movers on it, right next to an ASP... pretty fucking adequate. There are a couple more to the south-east as well, you know... the one's right next to the beach. Across the street from... not a child development center. |

I'm about 45 min the private range they use in Walls,MS. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile This is John Shaw's place very nice range and if you read Chris Kyle's book it references going to Shaw's prior to deployment. Mid-South Institute |
They come up here sometimes (guys from MidSouth), not my fault for getting them tanked And to all the people that think that is their range, we have lots of cool places right around this area to shoot at.
The speculation about the guys though from everyone here makes me and LOL

I occasionally shoot at hot wells, which is a regular old public range located in northwest Houston. It also has a police range on it, which is just a blacktop 25 yard pistol bay with about 20 lanes on it, so about 20 yards wide by 25 long or whatever. Its right on the main road coming in is probably the least ninja tactical place ever.
Anyhow, i was at the range one day and there were about a dozen, dozen and a half young guys there in green uniforms. I think I left before they actually began shooting, but while I was there somebody told me that they were Navy seals who were in town and were training here for some reason. They were warmups and then pushups and other exercises while I was watching them. While i doubt that they were some kind of super super hardcore seal team 6 or whatever, I did find it plausible that they could be navy seals and that they could be training on a public range. |

Most military ranges, from the sky, just look like a field. Then the individual units build some temporary structure for whatever it is they want to practice. Then tear it down when they are done with it. Obviously I'm not talking about basic rifle ranges.. but places like OP13 at Bragg... its just a huge area that has a trench and a few bunkers. But we would build small villages on it to train on. Then tear it down when done.
The ranges that are more than that, like MOUT facilities, just look like buildings from the sky. So unless you know what to look for, you probably won't see them. I doubt a Navy Annex has any elaborate ranges. Even on google maps, the Delta compound doesn't appear to have anything crazy range wise. But apparently the inside of some buildings has some cool shit going on. I'd bet the DEVGRU guys do their training somewhere else. Heres a MOUT range at Bragg...its used by every unit at Bragg, both SF and regular Army...https://maps.google.com/maps?q=35.122252,-79.162504&hl=en&sll=35.122585,-79.162685&sspn=0.005651,0.01031&oq=fort+bragg&t=h&z=16 If I remember right, the building about 1km to the west is the live fire shoothouse. It doesn't look like anything but a box, but inside is a pretty good shoothouse. I could be wrong as I haven't been to that shoothouse since 2005 or so. |

Shaws, stopped keeping track how many times I went there after the 12th or 13th time. How much 9mm were you allotted each time you were there? I've seen personal pictures taken of a dumpster full of brass from a SEAL training session. I could only imagine how much ammo that place goes through. |

| goto ap hill...you used find them shooting there all the time...maybe things have changed since 88 to 96. I ran many a range over there and those guys would show up for freebies. On a few occasions they would borrow/scrounge our helicopters whenever we had them for helocasting the VMI cadets and whatever other training we did like running air assault school for vmi/old guard guys in DC. I did not socialize with them but my 2 squad leaders, both army scuba guys, were very tight with them. Never knew what team there were and all that. |

I seriously doubt they were SEALs. Hot Wells is one of the HCSO qual ranges. Those guys in green were probably the HCSO HRT team. They all wear green uniforms with drop leg holsters. I see them every day at work as they're just on the opposite side of the ground floor from me. Also, great ranges. I'd love to shoot at some of those. |
