after ~15 or so gun purchases in the last year, this morning I went into the same gun shop and filled out my yellow sheet the same as always. My first 'Delayed' ever... WTF?

A different guy from NICS did call the shop back like 10 minutes later and approved/proceed so I got the pistol but I want to know why all of the sudden it went to a delayed status...

If the computer is slow ----------

they will not waste time on you. You get a delayed response.

I have had it happen to cops.

I used to get a delay every time up untill about a year or 2 ago. Now they go through no problem.

Dude, I used to get delayed EVERY STINKING TIME for a couple years. Then probably two years ago (?) they upgraded the process to where they would pass off the caller if the initial check had problems. I have a very common name (first and last), so that is likely the culprit. Now I haven't been delayed at all in the last year or two.

And when I get off my ass and get my CHL, I won't ever get delayed! (Unless I shop at WalMart... they call in regardless, so I hear)

I NEVER got delayed. I moved to VA a year ago from MD. I have been delayed for EVERY gun purchase since I moved.

I guess you didn't "voluntarily" offer a sample of you DNA to help sove a local crime.

It happened to me about 6 years ago. I went in to purchase an HK USC .45 carbine that I'd been eyeballin. Proceeded to the store, picked out the rifle, spare mags, ammo, case......I was in hog heaven. I had right at $1000 bucks cash at the register.......beaming with happiness and it all got shit on by a delayed NICS check. I drove half way across Houston and they called me back on my cell phone and told me that I could come pick it up.

Thats when I went to get my CHL. No waiting. Walk in, paperwork, pay, Walk out.

Happened to me a lot before a couple years ago. Now it always seems to go right through.

Don't worry about it until you come back "denied." Getting that cleared up was not as bad as I thought it'd be but it was still a pain in the ass when you have the gun jones.

The first gun I bought after a 20 year hiatus went through with no trouble at all. EVERY subsequent one has been delayed...it takes me about 30 minutes on average to get NICS approval now, from the time the call is placed to the call back. It's pretty ***damn annoying, to be honest.

But for those of us that don't live in a free state, that's not an option.

Brettb19, you're lucky it was only for 10 minutes. Mine have never come back approved. They're never denied. The BATF just doesn't approve it. That's a pain, because according to their procedures you can't challenge a non-approval, only a denial.z

yeah ive been delayed before as well ussaly becouse
he sytem is so bogged down. Doesnt nesscarly meaned your deined. solution get a CCW one of the other benifets beside being able to CCW is skip the NICS.
