After over ten years with the same Audio/Video gear I decided to build a new home theater system. So far I've spent enough to get 3 Bushmasters. . . is there a 12 step program for people like me????

I thought you were going to say cars or racing, but home theater systems will work too. enjoy being broke. [:D]

General Aviation is probably the MOST expensive hobby, especially if you plan to have something larger than a Cessna 150.

Have started the home theater hobby next to shooting as well. Got the audio part covered for the most part, waiting for the widescreen.

Why don't you just out to movies?
In the meanwhile, I really enjoy folks who tell me that they had to upgrade their stereo system from the $5,000.00 one they had to the $10,000.00 they just got from Bang & Olufson! I ask them, why? You wanna waste a lot of money on an expensive hobby, try Dragracing...
Speed & E.T. are limited only by how deep your pockets are... I did it for 15 years until I got smart and sold everything... (Dad died in October, and Mom needed support $$$) Guns/shooting are my main hobby for now...I just love the satisfaction of building them from scratch, and having them shoot flawlessly... Next hobby is going to be Nitro powered RC (radio controlled) cars...They're much more affordabe than the real thing... Thinking of doing the paintball thing this summer too... |

Have you seen the the new paintball guns in small arms review? FN makes one you can attach to your AR15! |

Taking a break from installing my home system now. We got it as OUR Christmas present to each other.Just found out yesterday!
I think she told everyone I wanted LEGGOS for Christmas. Can't get LEGP through her head. I'll be building a damn bridge across the Gulf!!! |

A couple of freinds of mine are into it bigtime, and they have mega$$$ computerized full auto guns, that they can "program" to fire at different cyclic rates...VERY COOL! I'll probably fool with RC cars over the winter, and start into paintball stuff when the weather warms up in the spring.... |

After about 200 miles on the motor a keeper broke, dropped the valve, bent the rod and piston into the cylinder wall after it had rammed pieces of the valve into the combustion chamber of the head and bent the crank. All I was left with was a large paper weight. |

Yep! I sold my airplane a few years back. It was like owning a boat, hot tub, sportscar and two mistresses with apartments on the side.
All said and done, there's nothing left of your checkbook. Now son wants to be a pilot. Why don't we buy another plane Dad? |

Don't ever get interested in MIDI keyboards and home recording. I wish I would have been happy with that old Casio I got 10 years ago.

Every year I'd toss out 1 or 2 sets of JE pistons, rings, bearings, valvespriings, etc... Hey Eric the Hun
You will probably see it soon, its being offered to law enforcement for crowd control. It has a 15 round mag and the rounds are .75 in. in diameter. They are also offering stink balls! |

My hobby of buying firearms is second in expense to my Guitar Playing.
Each guitar costs as much as a PreBan Colt and the EVH Wolfgang Peavery $1700.00 Peavey 5150 Amp w/ Cabinter $1200.00 Eventide 3000 or 4000 $3600.00/$4600.00 But even then that is inexpensive compared to High-End American Audio Full system $100,000+ |
|
NONE of these compares to my "HIGH MAINTENANCE" girlfriend......I`m beginning to see the true meaning of..."poor bastard".......[BD]

I will never invest in the High End Audio stuff as the Guitar playing has damaged my hearing some.

Guns and shooting take up most of my $$$, fly fishing takes up most of my time. It works out pretty well.

RC airplanes. Begins with gliders, move up to fast nitro burners. then twin engine turbines. Computer radios, there is no end.

If you use purchasing to cure depression, you might try lithium. Tell your doctor you think you might be bi-polar.The other option that a lot of Psych's are trying is called "Reparenting". Its expensive because it requires a lot of operant-conditioning supervised by a Psych.

aren't standard paintballs .68-.69 bore?
Why don't FN make paintballs that are compatible with the standard? |

If guns aren't your most expensive hobby, you're just not doing it right. Move to a class 3 friendly state and you'll see how expensive guns can get. A cheap full auto beltfed like a 1919 will run about $8000-9000. Get into something a little more exotic like an MG42 or a Maremont M60E3, and you're looking at well over $20k

At AnimeExpo '96, someone was selling bumper stickers that said -
"Anime? Drugs would be cheaper." http://http://www.anime-expo.org Just so you know, I watch anime on my home theater system while building RC cars and cleaning ARs and Class III guns, or paging through magazines deciding what new motorcycle to buy. Yes, I am always broke. [:P] [Edited to ficks speling misteaks.] |

Wow, I've been spending a lot of time on hometheaterforum.com and didn't realize what I started (Now please don't be jealous Goatboy, I'll always come back here).
Anyway somebody asked me for details so here goes: Receiver - Denon 3802 (just bought) I can't wait to get this (should be delivered monday). 110w x 7 with separate power amps for each channel. Does everything but make coffe and have a built-in beer tap. Dolby Prologic 2 is supposed to be great. Mains - Klipsch RB-5 (just bought) Small but kick some serious ass. Center - Klipsch RC-3II (just bought) Waiting for delivery. . . Surrounds - Some old Cerwin Vega's I have (will be Klipsch RS-3II shortly) I'll let you know when the Klipsch go on line. Sub - None yet (looking at SVS) Anybody have any opinions? TV - Mitsubishi 60" Older rear projection, needs upgrading, maybe a plasma screen. DVD - Panasonic RP-91 (just bought) Best one in the price range from what I've read. Remote - Home Theater Master MX-500 (just bought) Universal remote that learns and does macros. Game - Sony PS2 (just bought) You gotta have fun. I can't wait to hear my games in Dolby Digital. PC to Receiver Link - Stereo Link If you want to play your MP3s on a stereo, this is the unit to get. stereolink.com I think this is the longest post I've ever made here. . . Oh well, back to football!!! |

yes it is the avi in laughlin minutes after that picture i ran aground on a sand bar with nice hand sized rocks.destroyed pump but was able to to make it back to the riverside casino.
|

The river south of the Avi gets really shallow in some spots. We have wasted a few props there ourselves. :-)

I thought you were going to say general aviation....but it's worth every penney!
I love my long-EZ! |

Home A/V isn't cheap, but if you've only spent $2100, count yourself lucky. I've got that much money in DVD's alone. I've seen some setups that were $100,000+, and they are absolutely mind blowing. I wouldn't mind having something like that, but I'd need a bigger house first. Unfortunately, I want a real home theater (seats, projector, screen, refreshments area), but every house we looked at with a "home theater" area was greatly lacking.
I just recently took up building with Legos again, and it's been pretty fun just like it was when I was a kid. You can get sets at yard sales for cheap and it beats puzzles, which is what my wife likes to do as a couple thing. The new sets are insanely expensive. God Bless Texas |

I wanted to get a job for them making the big department store displays when I was in college. That would have been the dream job. Paid to play with Legos... |

That makes me wonder, how many of us are Secret Lego Maniac's. I mean I played with legos my whole childhood. Then Audrey starts building something, and before I know it there we are and I have got my head barried in that box looking for a particular piece. Man , I didn't want to quit doing that at all. I felt 10 years old again. And before I was through I had built a pretty knarly robot. Thank God for Kids!!

For me, its woodworking and firearms.
Ever looked at any of the GOOD woodworking stationary equipment?? At least $750 each. Bandsaw, morticer, table saw, dust collector (Only about $300) lathe, planer, shaper, radial arm saw, joiner. Times $750 each. Plus 10,000 accessories. [BD] AT least HOPEFULLY my woodworking may MAKE me some money. Lord knows my shooting never will. |
