I have a LT1018 with a 18.5 B&S engine. The only way I can start it is to jump it off the Jeep but before I can do that I have to move the flywheel pass the point of compression. Theres some problems with the magnets. How can I fix this?
I'm not sure if its charging the batter or not.
thanks for any info.

I had the same problem with a LT1550.

One of the magnets inside the starter case had come loose. Poor bonding from the epoxy that holds it in place. Might check to see if it can be repaired instead of replacing the starter.
