[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Condom Breakage (Page 1 of 3)

| Anyone here know the chances of a condom breaking? This is one of the reasons that the "player" lifestyle is frightening, girl says she is on the pill isn't you do it, condom breaks she has you trapped. I would assume if one pulls out whilst wearing a condom, then said breakage wouldn't be that chancy? |

December 4, 2006 Researchers at the German Institute for Condom Consultancy plan to launch a spray-on condom – the Institute is currently conducting tests on a spray can into which the man inserts his penis which is then sprayed with latex from nozzles on all sides. The plan is to make the product ready for use in about five seconds and offer a more effective contraceptive that fits better than standard one-size fits all condoms and hence does not slip. Pre-market trials are underway to demonstrate the new latex condom is evenly spread when sprayed and to optimise the vulcanization process. The company is seeking Condom Testers with a penis length from 9 to 12 cm and 15 to 20 cm. Men between 13 to 14 cm are apparently welcome too, so we presume there must be some other qualification ‘cos that includes just about everyone. We could think of worse jobs, and if any Gizmag readers get the gig, please don’t forget to send us your business card. Video (in German) |

I came up with the idea of a spray-on prophylactic many years ago, but they beat me to the marker I was irate when I first read about it |

I knew a girl in her 20's who was mildly promiscuous, but was very adamant that if she ever got pregnant with anyone, even a one night stand, she would have the baby. I thought this clashed a bit with her casual attitude towards sex, and made sex with her a higher risk than with most.
I was further confused by the fact that she was pretty intelligent, with a Masters degree in mathematics, and seemingly alot of common sense. |

This was from a study in '97
rate of breakage at last heterosexual intercourse was 3.4%, and the slippage rate was 1.1% Another study. "Several other reasons for condom failure have been mentioned in the literature: opening the package with sharp objects or teeth; incorrect methods of putting on the condom, such as pulling it on like a sock; use of oil-based lubricant; lengthy and vigorous intercourse; using condoms for non-vaginal intercourse; not holding rim of condom during withdrawal; re-use of condoms. "This is one of the reasons that the "player" lifestyle is frightening"–– I would submit that the most frightening aspect of a "playa" lifestyle is: Herpes, HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlaymidia, genital warts, Hep C..... |

Quoted: Bust a rubber, win a prize! Many times the goal is not to. My wife is allergic to latex so when she wasn't on birth control and we weren't looking for childrens I used the polyurethane kind. They seemed to break more than the latex from memory or maybe there were other reasons. |
