Gateway laptop 2.8ghz, Windows XP Home Edition, 2gb memory went to Best Buy for warranty work about a month ago.  Needed the screen replaced as it was flickering again (shouldn't a screen last longer than 9-18 months?), the wireless card was dropping connections, and I figured I might as well get it professionally fixed the day before my warranty ran out.

I get it back today and they say I need to install wireless drivers, but other than that, everything's groovy.  Get it home and I can't connect to the internet even with a wire.  Refuses to recognize the existence of the web.  So I did a reset, backing up everything first.  Reset goes according to plan, and the computer boots back up.  It gets to the screen where Windows checks for drivers, and freezes half-way through.  No mouse or keyboard interaction, no buttons to click, nothing.  If I restart the computer, it brings me back to a Windows XP set up screen and freezes again.

Any ideas?

Sounds like your first problem was expecting BB to actually fix it.  Then you waited until the day before the warranty expired to take it in?  Unless I'm misunderstanding something, you probably have little recourse now if the warranty is expired.

FWIW, years ago I was gifted a Compaq laptop.  POS started having mouse button problems and other issues a few months later, so I was forced to take it to BB for warranty work.  I think the claim was, back then, that they wouldn't fix it anywhere else since I had an extended warranty.  Either way, I got it back in the same fucking condition.  Nothing was fixed.  Plus, I had someone elses old A/C adapter.  IIRC, I was told that if the computer had certain problems that I could return it within a certain time frame and they'd give me a new one.  Nope.  Assholes don't do that I guess.  BB sucks.

I've gotten great service out of Best Buy...I'm on my 3rd screen in 5 years, and they've mailed me 3 AC adapters.  I was having some minor problems and figured since they won't let me renew my warranty a second time, I might as well bring it in.  There was nothing catastrophic going on, and I trusted them to do what they've always done in the past - fix it.  They warranty their repair work for 30 days, so getting it fixed a second time shouldn't be a problem.  I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do from home.

Well, my luck was always bad, but that was years ago.  Maybe they've changed.  I have no idea how to fix your problem.
