I'll be soon getting a used HP pavilion 510w which has an Intel celeron 1.1 Ghz CPU, and I was wondering which (if any) faster CPU I can upgrade to, without having to change anything else. The HP website doesn't even address CPU upgrades, so I thought I'd ask here (better info here, anyway). Thanks in advance for any help.

It really depends on the motherboard.

I think those celerons were fin at 1.4ghz.

Currently, I'm on a Compac which has a Celeron 600Mhz CPU, and according to them, it can be upgraded to a P3 1.13 Ghz with no problems.

I'm hoping I can upgrade the HP to at least a 1.7 Ghz......with comps, who knows.......

The only thing in HPs spec page for this comp shows what it already has.

I would say it would depend on the sockets that the CPUs are mounted on. For example, an intel celeron is likely to be on Socket 370. here's a small article on this. Scroll down a little to see it. http://www.geek.com/procspec/newsletter/nlproc03082000.htm
