I'm trying to resurect an old PC for a friend to run parts lookup software at his radiator shop. I have the thing ready to go, but cant install the operating system. I have 95 & 98 on CD, but need to be able to boot up to install it. What's the answer? Thanks. |

Find someone with Win98 installed. Insert a blank, formatted floppy in the floppy drive, and click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Click on the Startup Disk tab (or something like that). Click "Make Startup/Boot Disk". This disc will contain drivers that will enable most IDE and SCSI CD-ROMs. It also has FDISK and FORMAT commands on it, so you can partition and format the hard drive if necessary. This must be done before you can install the OS. -Troy |

Quoted: you need a boot disk to load the drivers for the cd: or go into the bios and change the boot sequence to cd and run the install there. Note: most Windows 9x CDs are not bootable, unlike NT/2000. The ones that are are the OEM and Corporate/Select versions. -Troy |
