My wireless connection to my desktop has failed. The router is still sending to my wife’s laptop.
How do ascertain if the problem is with the router or the wireless USB adapter? Also I have forgotten the network name and password. How screwed am I? I have Windows 7 |

Easiest thing to do is reset the router, go back and re-setup your security and then try to join the newly created network. Your router should have a small button on the bottom or back next to the power pug. Unplug the router from the power, hold the button down and re-power the router. Log in with the default uname and PW and just start from scratch.
Also, ProTip: Write down your router's login and PW and the network name and password and tape it to the bottom of your router. |

I have Windows 7 if your wife is still connecting through the WAP, it's more than likely your wireless networking card. have you tried turning your computer off and on again? is the antenna (if there is one, stilll connected at your computer?) what make/model WAP do you have? |

Well without the password and stuff you will have to reset your router back to the mfg default.
As for the USB stick you can plug it into your wife's laptop and disable the internal wifi card and see if it works but before you do that power the desktop off and back on. Does the desktop not show any wifi hotspots? Is the device disabled? Look under System Manager. Try a plugging it into a different USB port. You can try unlplugging it, deleting it from system manager. reboot, plug device back in and see if it's found |
