I have a one year old HP Pavilion computer.
It came with a wireless mouse that from day one didn't work that well. I believed it was because the computer is hidden in a lower cabinet and the mouse wasn't communicating that well because of the cabinets. Long story short.. I replaced it with a better wireless mouse––not any better..... I replaced it with a wired mouse via a USB port––-it was a disaster. Every five minutes my desk top icons would automatically be activated without even being near them. The computer would end up freezing up and it took a control alt delete to free up. I would then be able to "X" out the unwanted programs that were started..... I bought another wireless mouse and when I move the cursor arrow over a screen button it sometimes hangs up on the button with out clicking on it or when I do click on it either doesn't activate the button or there is a delay of a few seconds before it is activated. It is driving me nuts. Any thoughts? |

When you installed the wired mice, did you uninstall or change the drivers that were already installed?
Start> Settings> Control Panel> Mouse> Devices tab (on my machine) You could also check to see how many mouse drivers you have installed on your machine, by looking at Control Panel > System > Hardware (tab) > Device Manager . Click the + next to Mice and other Pointing devices - what's in there? |

HP and USB.... I have seen any HPs totaly lockup, never load windows again, or other wierd shit after hooking up USB devices, I dont know why. Get an old PS2 one or use the USB/PS2 adapter The wired mouse that I bought had a USB connector and I used a USB/PS2 adapter. That was the one that played with my desk top program icons. I went to CC and Best Buy to see if I could get a mouse with a PS2 plug and they didn't have one (all USB). I just did a Google on it and I see that I can order one. Do you think it is worth a try? |

I think its a deeper problem. Check newegg or pricewatch if you decide to order one though |

I had it do a search for a better driver and it said the best one was being used. |

Before I spent any more money, I'd do this. 1) uninstall all the mouse drivers. 2) turn off the computer. 3) plug a wired (usb) mouse into the usb port (forget the ps/2 plug) 4) reboot the computer, and let it find/detect your mouse 5) profit Now, unless you've left critical info out, like you're using a wireless keyboard or there's a 3 foot piece of rebar sticking out of your motherboard, you should be good to go. :) I *think* the 2 HID adaptors are fighting for control. You could possible reset one of their channels, but I'd try the wired route first. If that works, then uninstall it, add 1 wireless mouse, add the drivers (making sure you have fresh batteries in the mouse) and see what happens. Good Luck! |
