I've had issues with Windstream DSL for the last couple of weeks, and finally after 4 different calls to customer service, had a tech come out today.  My issue was intermittent connectivity issues, which eventually progressed to not being able to get on the internet at all.  Tech decided the older 2Wire wireless router/modem I have was bad, so he switched it over to the newer style (small/black model).  He never could get it to connect with my desktop, which is an eMachines with Athlon AMD processor running XP.   I was able to connect with my cell phone, and was told rebooting the desktop would fix the connectivity issue.  He was able to get online with his laptop, so it seems there is an issue with my desktop communicating (?) with the newer style wireless modem.  I never had an issue with the older style, at least not until a couple weeks ago.

I can connect to the modem, and it will show the connection....but I can't get on the internet.  Rebooting didn't fix my problem....and I get the "not available" prompt in the middle of the screen, even though I am connected to the modem.  Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue?  I haven't had a chance to try my laptop with the new modem, as it isn't at the house right now.

Thanks!

Go into WiFi config on router and change the channel that WiFi is using.  Ensure the router is broadcasting in b/g as well and not just n.  assuming emachine is using WiFi and not directly wired.   also assuming you aren't using that Norton firewall crap

I'm using an external wireless card, and I don't believe it has Norton.

I just picked up my laptop, and it accesses fine (typing from it now).

Try another wireless card or one of the USB wireless adapters.  They are available from 5 bucks and up on amazon
