So my comp froze the other day while playing a game and had to turn it off via the power button. When I turned it back on, the sony vaio thing came on, but with a bunch of symbols and crap, matrix computer screen style. Then it goes to the "your computer was shut off wrong, do you wanna go regular or safe mode" screen. Ive tried both and neither will load, it goes to a black screen with the mouse cursor and nothing else, fan motor cuts off, nothing to click, just a mouse pointer moving around when you want it to. What do I do?

Wouldnt work in safe mode either.  repeatedly pressing F10 at startup got me to the system restore in the comp, which got me a couple days prior to the meltdown and got me into winders.  Im typing on the laptop right now, winders is vista home premium.

I had to go into performance afterwards and turn up the amount of hard drive memory used as RAM, once I got it running I ran a scan with the norton and defragged the c: drive and it ran slow and stuttered a bit.  Once I gave it 10GB to play with on the hard drive that stopped and its ran fine ever since.
