Left computer open and kids started pushing all kinds of things. Now I can't use the pad on the laptop to scroll up and down pages. Please help before I throw this computer out the window.............

If you have system restore enabled, just go back to a day before the problem happened.

What make and model is the laptop? Some will have a button or switch somewhere around the touch pad that turns it on and off.
