I'm relatively new to Windows 2000, and I'm running ZoneAlarm firewall software in conjunction with my cable modem. ZoneAlarm lets my browser and e-mail program connect to in internet, understandably. However, there are a couple of other applications that keep asking to connect, and I don't know why, or what the applications do. The primary one is "Services and Controller app" which tries to connect fairly frequently. Once in a while "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" will try to connect. Does anyone know what these are, and why they might be trying to talk to the internet? Thanks. DrMark |

I don't recall if "Services and Controller app" or "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" needs access to the net. Just block it and see if you can still surf the net. If you can they don't need access. I would also reccomend that you get a "Hardware Firewall". Zonealarm will work fine for blocking things from going out to the net. But it is a little lacking at stopping threats from comming in from the net. |
