What do I do now? |

does anything at all happen? power supply fan go on? any leds light up?
process of elimination: unplug all unnecessary shit and try again. If it works, add back one by one to find your problem. If unnecessary shit isn't the problem, switch out necessary shit one by one with known working parts if available (video card at least). |

No beep, no light, no fan movement, etc. Its as if the power supply is not even plugged in. |

No, I am not getting any response from the computer. I wonder if it is the power supply, but I am not sure how to test it. Turn on PSU without motherboard - the 'paperclip trick' |

Sounds like the PSU but can't really be sure. Did you make sure to connect the 24-pin plug from the PSU to the mobo? Also, double check that the power switch wire is connected to the right header on the mobo. The power supply does not have a 24 pin plug |
|
Take everything back out of the case. Place the motherboard on a nonconducting surface. Install just the CPU + cooling fan, one stick of RAM, and the video card. Disconnect hard drives and optical drives, but connect the monitor to the video card. Make sure ALL power connectors are plugged in. Short the ON pins from the front panel header with a small screwdriver. The PSU should start, the MOBO should POST and then you should see an error message on the screen. It's highly likely something is shorted out and preventing your system from starting. I hope you have turned on the master switch on the back of the power supply. |

You have four power ports with no power going into them on your mobo? |

I thought all modern mobos had a 24-pin ATX connection for the PSU.
I agree with the guy above who said disconnect everything except what you need to POST. That usually gets you down to a bare minimum and then you can start the process of elimination to find out the faulty part. |

Surely it does, one like this: http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/9150/atxconnector2024pinp.jpg Yes...Wanna guess what my problem was? |

Haha I had something similar the other day. Was building my buddy a new gaming rig...crossfired the cards, got MOBO updated, OS installed, but the stupid thing was not recognizing the cards. I was dumbfounded for a good few minutes and realized I forgot to hook the PSU up to the cards.

Thank you ARCOM for once again solving one of life's problems! Don't feel bad. I remember reading in the 2005 Maximum PC builder's guide that the 24 pin connector is one of the most commonly missed connectors in building a PC, which is why I suggested it. Turns out they were right, eh? (Then again, I'm not sure how one can easily miss a huge connector with 24 wires sticking out of it ... it's not like it's a tiny one pin connector like the HDD LED header or anything.)
