Maybe I am late to the part but has Colt Customer Service and quality just gone downhill?
I've always been a faithful Colt customer but recently I've encountered really long wait times on the phone, customer service reps who state "Yea....you could send it to us to fix but it would be faster to take it to a gunsmith and pay out of pocket" ![]() , really bad quality control, etc.
Are there any other alternatives for a quality made 1911? Springfield Armory is not a consideration. Their customer service is great but I've seen more than enough broken ambi-safety's to steer me clear of them. |

They've sucked for years. But but but muh 6920 Due to owning a 6920 I've thankfully never had to use their customer service That said I've dealt with other firearms companies and thankfully have never had a bad experience. YMMV. |

The two times I've dealt with their customer service over the years have both been good experiences. They took care of the issues quickly and at no charge. They used to be great, then they slowly started to "slow down" and now it is damn near useless. I won't even get into their "Colt Dealer Program". Getting information has been damn near impossible. |

The two times I've dealt with their customer service over the years have both been good experiences. They took care of the issues quickly and at no charge. I sent them a Delta Elite that bulged cases. They sent it back with "You changed the recoil system from the factory to a proper guide rod and heavy spring, not our fault." This is of course, after I described the issue in a written note included with the gun, as well as the factory recoil spring setup for them to diagnose it properly. They also managed to break off the shitty raised "GI" style sights AFTER it had been wrapped up for shipping.
It went back again with the factory recoil setup with the same note, with a nasty comment about the broken sights, and then I finally got it back with a new slide and barrel, with new night sights gratis. It still bulges cases of warm 10mm, but not Blazer aluminum like it used to.
I won't buy another new Colt, ever. And quite frankly, everything they make is made better by someone else, unless you just have to have the prancing pony on the side, so it "looks" right when you send it off to a 1911 smith as a base for a proper 1911 build. |

Colt has... Issues.
Yes, they can build quality gun. I have bought 4 1911's in the last two two years. Two GCNM's, one 70 Gov, and one Delta. One Gold Cup had a ding from careless packing of the gun in the box, and the Delta had a safety that wouldn't fully engage unless forced. The other two guns being perfect. I contacted Brent on the 1911 forum and he had me call for a fedex tag. The Delta was brand new and unfired when it went back. It came home with a big fucking idiot mark on it. I am adept at working on 1911's, but felt Colt should fix their QC slip. They fixed it. That's about all I can say. I knew how to replicate the Colt finish, so the idiot mark polished out and it looks untouched. It slowed my buying down of Colt guns, but not my want of them. I'll just never sent one back to Colt ever again. I'll do all the work myself. |
