I'm looking to buy a 1911  45.

I think i will get a colt stainless

Any advice on current models?

Depends on what you'll be doing with it. If its just for the range and you don't need a super accurate Gold Cup type, I'd go with the basic 1991 NRM (New Roll Mark).
I don't require the beavertail grip safety, etc.,. that come on the XSE models. Each to their own though.

I got a stainless Gold Cup Trophy and NRM 1991.

The Gold Cup has an awesome, super light and extra wide trigger. The rear sight design sucks. I and a few other ppl on Arfcom have problems with the pin in the sight coming out during firing.
The 1991 is just a basic no frills government model. It works.
I used to have a stainless XSE too but I sold it because it would not extract/eject properly.

love my XSE commander but i like my friend's XSE lightweight commander better, that'll probably be my next gun purchase

The XSE Commander is on my short list. But not the lightweight version.

If I was going to buy a full size 1911, I'd get a Springer. Probabaly a loaded.
