Anyone else watching this?
I think it is pretty interesting seeing a bunch of wimpy American's like me having to rough it according to 17th century mores. I think I would have gone native myself. The Native Americans had to have it better than all that church going and being an indentured servant. Plus if you brought firearms with yoou when you deserted you would have an advantage over the other Native Americans.

I saw an episode of Pioneer House and loved it, but I forget when it was on and I never saw it again

Yeah, my wife and I watched it.  I get a good laugh watching the suburbanite wimps crying about how hard they have to work everyday just to survive.

Pioneer house was the same way.  There was a couple from Malibu who were just complete idiots.

PBS or to learn about the show www.pbs.org.
I know they are commies, but I find they sometimes have good stuff to watch.

I can rough it for a week or so hunting or camping, but six months would be just too long.

Actually,
The wealthy Malibu family ended up being the most successful.  Once they stopped a lot of their bitching (which they all did) they really pulled together and improvised to make stuff work.  No one was allowed to hunt (which is bullshit, especially if they're trying to be realistic), so what did the wealthy Cali family do?  The did built a still (feakin' smart) and sold the hooch to buy supplies and food.  I think a key to their success was that they never really fought amongst themselves (unlike the other couples.  Shit, one ended up getting divorced).  They got "reprimanded" for the still and were considered to be cheating (which once again, is bullshit.  You did anything to survive then.), but some producer behind the scenes said that it was hard to do it, because had it been the "real deal" that still not only would've kept that family fed, it would've helped 'em prosper.

Cool series of shows though.  One thing that pissed me off tonight was when the Heinz bitch (Hmmmmm...related to Ketchup/Giggolo queen?) started to rant about why she was doing this.  Went on saying "I'm really upset with the direction this country has taken in the last three years, blah blah blah..."  They cut her off

Did you watch it?  Anybody who's ever spent even a week or two on a farm would see how ridiculous they are.  I can forgive the teenage girl for crying because the goats are a pain in the ass to milk (teenage girls are prone to tears, after all) but grown men simply shouldn't cry on national TV.

As for the Morons from Malibu who were on Frontier House, they thought their new-age, California hippie ways would work under primitive circumstances.  It was actually enjoyable to watch because you saw that the woman who'd had to scratch a bit to get by was much more prepared than the others who were soft.  She was doing a good job of rationing her supplies, adding water to honey to make it last through the winter, etc. while the others were complaining about how they just couldn't make it without more sugar, and what am I supposed to do with all that flour stuff?

These shows are very interesting because they give a glimpse of what it would be like if TS ever really HTF.   They are much more worthy of thje title "Survivor" than that game show crap on the networks.

CavVet, it's a PBS show.  www.pbs.org/wnet/colonialhouse/

Yeah, something tells me the Heinz's, the liberal professors from California, will be insufferable sources of strife in this show.

Anyone see Manor House?  The PBS reality show that re-created a wealthy Edwardian estate in England at about the turn of the century?  The master of the house had it totally made, everyone else toiled for his comfort.  That would have been sweet.

Exactly what my wife and I were saying.

Raven, that manor house one was pretty cool too.  The guy who was put in charge was all into the part and everybody else was pretty much his bitch.  Some of the people just couldn't take it and left.  Didn't he kick one of the maids out of the house for screwing around with the hall boy or something?

Strife? How about rewriting (what I understand) history? Real .gov leaves Pastor hippy manwife in charge, next thing you know the men are in the kitchen? WTF?

I wish I was home tommorrow night. The scarlet letter comes out, and the real .gov is back!

I wonder what little liberal atheist will say in the stocks...?

The narrator did admit they would have gone out with armor and weapons when they first encountered the Indians.

I did love the scene where the generous Injuns gave them a muskrat. That must have stunk to high heaven.

I watched part, tivo'd the rest.  Just now finished watching the first 2 hours.   Farming and what they are trying to do are completely different.   I'm not going to explain what they are trying to do, you should know since you are watching too.   Also very different than SHTF scenarios.

I'm really impressed the kids are doing their work.  Of course you cant watch 24 hours of it so they might be missing their gamboys or tv.

Scarlet letters going back & forth.  Gov's power tripping (but trying to be true to the times) until his family returns.  Nobody in the stocks; they're just loosely tied by a long rope to a wooden stake and get the 2-hour silent treatment.  Voorhoes' (sp?) family skips Sunday church to go swimming nekkid-his wife is a little bit saggy up top.  BTW,  Voorhoes served four years in the USMC.  Later, many people skip Church, but the penalties (2hrs/person/day) keep any colony work from being done.  After this the Gov makes Church voluntary.  Jonathan Allen (Heinzs' servant) comes out of the closet (first to them-later at Church) and there's a short expose about the short life expectancy of homosexuals that can't keep it to themselves in the 17th century.  This brings about some tension with the Gov; most other people seem OK with it.  Dominic wanders off for two days into town and comes back.
Two other families show up and living quarters become very cramped...

I would have been a god to them, building fish traps  even spear fishing, and hunting MEAT!

I quess you could have traded one of those skinny whinny white girls for a .50 cal hawken and mabe a few balls and some powder!

Hell I probably would have spent some time with the natives!

Oh well back to real life!

Just bought a Marlin model 39-A B series .22 just right for colonial life!!

I watched it for a short time.  My wife likes that kind of show.  I asked her when they were going to vote someone off.

Jackass - The Movie came on Showtime and I watched that instead.

If I'd have lived during that time, I would have spent a lot of time in the stocks.

I watched it 2 nights in a row, & really enjoyed it. I heve seen one thet is set in the Vitorian peroid, & one set in the mountains in the old west. I really love watching as it affirms my thoughts on how boring, & how much of a drudgery life was for so many back then. I see so many folks now with a the world owes me a good life attitude, & I think our forfathers would be really pissed if they could see what so many have become.
Sometimes I long so much for the simple life, but watching one of the shows, helps me see all the real advantages of living in this time period.
God is good,& tecnology can be our friend, but it's really good to examine our roots.
