Going through the safe deciding what to sell and came across this Collector Grade HRA. This is one I am going to hang onto, all original and mint . I would guess this one was issued and spent most of her days setting in a rack, still has preservation on the chamber face. Next to no finish wear to metal in receiver track or on bolt which are normal rub points.
You just don't find original rifles in this condition very often

Very nice.... I have a 4.7 HRA from CMP with correct barrel, 3/8 DAS etc but no where near the condition yours is in....

Torn: Would love that but I have an issue with owning a firearm I don't shoot.

It's in much better hands than mine right now.  :-)

The words "very nice" don't do that rifle justice.

There is no peer to the U.S. Rifle Cal. .30 M1.

It has been shot some so a little more wouldn't hurt.

It is a nice one, regret not buying more of those minty Greek returns.

I got bunch of H&R's , one pretty close 57098xx.

No it wouldn't hurt anything put I have plenty of shooters, no reason to fire this one . Just finished up a National Match 7.62 build with mostly NOS parts. That is one I am itching to shoot

Very nice rifle OP.

I have a Garand, but I'm not sure what it is worth.  Is there a guide somewhere?

Guides (if there are any)are worthless as prices change pretty fast

PM me with all  specifics and I can give you a estimate.
The more detailed info the more accurate the estimate

What does the 10-55 on the barrel stamping mean?  It is a re-barrel date, arsenal rebuild date, manufacture date, or some other code?

ETA: sorry, I forgot my manners...it truly is a gorgeous rifle, and like you, I would be reluctant to shoot it too...I would probably wear the finish fondling it though...

I have a 5.7 HRA that I received from the CMP in 2000.  All matching less the SA replacement bolt.

Won Gold shooting it at the 2001 Camp Perry Garand match.

OP, if you do decide to sell...., list it on the CMP forum - - -  Somebody will pay whatever you ask for it.

10-55 is the barrel date. This is a original rifle, not rebarreled or went through a rebuild, its as it left the manufacture

It is an icon of industrial art, meeting weapons history, at the intersection of a wonderful era in America (the fantastic '50s).

That rifle can be savored without even firing it.

But have other M1s you can shoot the hell out of.

I would say a rifle like this with documentation in todays market $2200 maybe $2500 on a very good day.

That's actually less than I thought! Absolutely gorgeous rifle you have.

Maybe I'll start saving and looking. I really like the M1 Garand and that's just a phenomenal specimen for an American to have in their collection.

There were 6 mil HRA's but they are fairly hard to come buy, only 400 or so as I remember? You might also find early HRA barrels on those as they were using up leftover parts to finish production

nice...i have a collector grade HRA from early on when that grading system started, the stock is pretty boogered up near the trigger guard though and I was always a little disappointed in it because of that.  I have a correct grade that is much nice, and was probably never fired much if at all that is also interesting because it has a partial DoD proof stamp on the charging handle.

Collector Grades from years ago were rougher as than later rifles. The stamp on the op rod is seen now and then, it was a inspection stamp and was supposed to be ground off but sometimes they were missed

Great looking rifle.

I have an HRA 5.7 that was probably made the same day as yours. It's a little over 100 digits different.

I will use your pics to double check mine.

To determine if your rifle is correct you have to be able to identify the unmarked parts as HRA

It looks like I might need to do some research. I'm not sure that it really matters though, I'm sure it's been reparked at a later date.

I haven't fired this one, but I have another HRA that is alot  more accurate than my SA's.

I had the same rifle (H&R, 5.7M, Collector Grade). Sold it last month because I hadn't fired it. It just sat there. I'm done with that. I'm not gonna own a gun unless it gets shot.

I have a few garands andI would not choot that one. I do have a field that was in ugly shape with a less than desirable barrel and a friend put a 308 barrel and a new stock that makes it my chooter.

I have another in 3006 to shoot also and the rest sit waiting to be fondled
