| Anybody looking forward to this one? |
trailer for it before AVP2 was almost all shakey camcorder crap |
Hmmmm, looks like "Revenge of the walking giant Sperm whale, dinosaur, monster, thingy" - wonder why it's attacking the US? The Japanese are the ones doing the over-fishing! Maybe it's taking it's revenge for the whole Starbucks thingy.

this was debunked as fan art, and is not the monster |
I know. I wouldn't have posted a real spoiler without a warning. |

Very interesting, this movie. Lots of mystery surrounding it, which is consistent with most of Abram’s work. Good to see someone with untamed creativity still dwells in Hollywood. I’ve come across several places where people are speculating that Cloverfield is a movie depicting the book of Revelations from the Bible. Perhaps it could be the ultimate SHTF movie. The trailers are certainly consistent with an end of the world immersion. Time will tell. If it is about the book of Revelations, there are plenty of events and characters that have the potential to make the Godzilla-like creature only a small part of the storyline. I’m excited to see this thing and like everyone else, I’m hoping it doesn’t suck. |
The whole movie is going to be "shakey camcorder crap".
Frankly, if it was done right... you wouldn't even have to show the monster. |
guess I'll be waiting for dvd then if I see it at all. I can't stand that amture camcorder style filming and I agree if it was done right the monster could be left out and left to the imagination of each viewer |

Just got back from watching it. I sat a little forward of midrow of the theater, and I had to close my eyes at times because of the overwhelming shaky camera. I felt bad for the folks of in the first row. With all the hype and speculation of the movie, i find it interesting that it did not match any of it. It was decent at best. SPOILERISH WARNING: That monster would've been dead within the initial contact of the Army. That scene was pretty cool. /SPOILER |

Well, if we go off of the video clip they released of the oil platform being destroyed we have to assume that it came from the ocean and probably from a great depth. They say in the video clip of the oil platform that they drilling at some crazy depth somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. My guess is that the monster had a very tough skin and structure necessary to live at such great depth where the pressure is tremendous. |

Suck, suck, SUCK!!!!!!!!! What the hell was that supposed to be? Almost everyone in the theatre was seasick in the first half hour. Whoever thought up that concept should be slathered with honey and tossed onto a fireant hill. Jesus, I thought 28 weeks later was bad, this shit just sucked big dirty donkey balls. Might have been an okay movie if it didn't look like someone with Parkinsons disease shot it. My daughter had to sit there for 10 minutes after the end to let her stomache settle enough to walk out. So, to sum up- SUCK, SUCK SUCK!!1!!11!!!1!1!! |

Another +1000 for it sucking. I went with 7 other people and we were all disappointed. No plot. No story line. No closure. **SPOILER POSSIBLE** Did the alien/monster come from Earth or somewhere else? What happened at the end? Did the military finally kill the monster? Or did Earth just get overrun by the little hatchlings? If you get bit do you spawn a little hatchling? Or do you just explode internally like that soldier they brought into triage? Shaky camera stuff sucked. I wanted to actually see what was going on, not get seasick. Basically, what the crap was the storyline? Huge bag of FAIL IMO. Hate that I wasted $10 on it. |
No kidding. The trailer and all the online hype made it very clear that this was a 'shaky camera' movie all the way through, and the plot was pretty much exactly what I expected. I enjoyed it and thought it was very well done. You see the monster enough to know what it looks like, but the story is people trying to survive and document the event. I knew going into the theatre what I was getting. ETA: I didn't get motion sickness because when watching similar movies I have learned to sit pretty far back in the theatre so that I can easily see the curtains bordering the screen. When I watched The Blair Witch Project in the theatre I was pretty sick because I sat so far forward, and I really learned my lesson there. |

Overall, I really liked the movie. But the thing that made it great is also what makes it bad: the shaky camera. It was a bit overdone at times. Modern video cams have an anti-shake feature. This one obviously didn't. It seems like every time the guy took a breath, the camera was shaking a ridiculous amount. Someone said before, if you get motion sickness, watch out. You might want to take some Dramamine. I felt a little queasy after the movie. I also overheard others saying they were dizzy. MINOR SPOILER, possibly... However, the atmosphere created and captured by the camera makes this movie what it is. It is nice to see something different at the movies. The camera captured the panic, which I think is lacking in many films. You just feel like you are there, and don't know WTF is going on, with all the screaming, falling buildings, people running around mindlessly. I'll buy it on DVD when it comes out. |
+1. The camera is a gimmick but it really makes you feel like you are on the front lines. NY/NJ/Mil people question, could they really deploy armor & artillery to Manhattan as fast as they did in the movie? |
When I first saw the film, I took the rapid response of the military as an indication that the government already knew of the creature's existence... and that it was headed towards NYC. Apparently there were hints in the marketing campaign (phony web-sites and such) that this was the case, and that the military had already been fighting the creature out at sea. |

Maybe it's taking it's revenge for the whole Starbucks thingy.
