When I decide it’s done, that’s that. |

Got a student starting a project based on your style. I'm not sure we she will go with the exact same method, but I'm going to try to push her that way. Do you mix something into your latex paints to make them thicker for pouring? Plaster? I think you addressed this earlier in the thread, but I can't remember.

Thanks, she's not totally sure she likes this idea,  but I'm pushing her to try it because it's so original. She's got some ideas of her own that she wants to work in, and they seem perfect for her subject, a Labrador swimming.

Look at it. What does it look like? (“It looks like a monkey”) Make that the target Pour/throw more paint, to make it look MORE like a monkey. Do other things now to it (shade, shadow, color, collage, etc) -to make it look MORE like a monkey. Develop best practices. Put them in the quiver. Throw more paint to make it more like a monkey, or to further the story of the monkey. Pour throw to balance the composition Repeat processes. It won’t necessarily look like a monkey, but it will look cool. Rule: NEVER be disappointed with a throw of paint. |

She did mix a little plaster with some of it to thicken it up, and other parts she did with just regular latex. We will see how it dries.

My process is far more messy and random. It’s dried pigment and graphite rubbed into the surface of the dry paint with a rag. Basically little pastel drawings on top of hundreds of dried blobs of paint. The throwing of paint is coming.this is just the background |
