Anyone here try the Google OS yet? I have a PC I could put it on, but I don't have a way to build it yet.

It's on my list of things to try over the holiday weekend.  I believe the VMware images floating around on the net will run under virtualbox –– that's my plan if I can get it to work.

Funny you mention it.  I just gave one of my programmers the project to build the object code.  I am real interested to see what they are doing.  I am surprised that there are no object zips floating around - none that I could find...

I just got hooked up with Google Wave developer sandbox and that stuff is amazing.  It is the future of computing.  Will have as much impact on computing as Lotus 123.  It is the next super application.

Love Google.

I have it installed and running in VirtualBox.

I think there's something i'm missing, because I wasn't impressed with it.

I don't get it... The OS is a web browser?

I guess you could make use of it on a netbook or thin-client/terminal.  I don't really see this catching on until we're all connected on 1Gbit fibre connections to the "cloud."

That's the point –– low power, long battery life laptops that run a very streamlined, cut-down, OS.

At this point it is very underwhelming... may get better but I doubt it.

It's less exciting than cleaning the litterbox.

I integrated it into Virtual Box and found out I could do the same things I do with IE and FireFox and a much slower rate.

A screen shot

Any idea if it will have GMA-500 (Poulsbo) drivers?  It seems that a lot of netbooks and laptops use this ignant setup and nobody seems to be including the drivers.  Mandriva 2010 One being the only exception I have found.  After a clean Mandriva install the graphics were good, had full WiFi and BT use but the damned system would lock up all the time.
Hopefully Chrome will be the answer.

Nobody has a good driver for the Poulsbo chipset yet –– your Mandriva lockups were caused by the 3d portion of the Poulsbo driver, most likely.

There's a couple of people working on one right now, I would expect there will be drivers eventually for linux at least.

I think right now the main use for it is netbooks.  It's interesting and could turn into a great light os.

I just wish I could get a google wave invite
