Which would you rather have happen:

A big environmental disaster of some kind, say all of the forests in the rocky mountain area turned into dessert permanantly, OR 1,000,000 ramndom people die instantly.

if that many tree's suddenly disappared, what would happen to our oxygen supply? could the percent of oxygen in the air drop a few .%? i have no idea just a thought i would like to throw in here.

if it did drop though, wouldnt that also kill off many people anyway?

I picked people, but do we have to replace them?  Are we talking 1,000,000 worldwide or just in the US?  State specific?  What do they die from?  is it contagious?  Can it be cured?  I guess I'm just picking nits.

Would that be a million people globally, or just in the U.S?

Either way, I vote to clear out a million people.

A million people is a drop in a bucket.

Trees. We can replant.

People.  Only because my home is in the temperate rain forest.  Don't get me wrong, by all means, keep the timber industry alive.  However, if the land were to turn permanently into desert, as stated above, then go with the people.

I cannot believe the "people" choice is ahead in the poll.

Same here. That's why I posted the question.

Would you consider your wife a drop in the bucket if she was one of the million?

Worldwide random?

Or regional random?

You trees are specific to a region.

Note I didn't say I preferred killing the people to killing the trees. I was just commenting on the raw numbers.

BTW, I didn't even vote b/c I think this is a silly question.

No, no. no

rocky mountain area turned into dessert permanantly

You need to think of this scientifically (thank god spelling isn't science ), the Rocky Mountain area has a large amount of natural resources. If we loose those resources, a lot of trees that make a lare % of the worlds O, people are going to die of deseases that need those resources to be cured, and the O will be gone. You cannot replant the trees or bring back the natural resources because it is permanant. This would also cause a war to get more resources to save people and people would die in the war. This is a tough question I am going to have to think about.
