License branch used in ID scam
Ex-employee, 6 Chinese foreign nationals arrested

Authorities said Monday they are investigating license branches throughout Marion County after the arrest of a former state employee and six other Chinese foreign nationals in an identity-fraud scheme.

An undercover probe at the Speedway Bureau of Motor Vehicles found at least 100 foreign nationals have obtained Indiana driver's licenses with phony visas and passports, Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi said.

Federal and local authorities are investigating whether Bureau of Motor Vehicles workers gave out driver's licenses as part of the scheme.

"It's too easy" to fraudulently obtain a driver's license, said Brizzi, who added that investigators are still unsure of an exact motive. "Anecdotal evidence tells us this is a widespread problem."
Monday, prosecutors filed conspiracy to commit forgery charges against Tao Sun, Yan Zhang and Elizabeth Lang, a former translator at the Speedway license branch.
Four more people will be charged today, Brizzi said.
