A REQUEST FROM
A VIET NAM VETERAN
TO ALL AMERICANS

It appears evident that the United States will once again be engaging in a war in a foreign land. Some say it is to liberate …….. others say it’s for oil! The peace rallies and demonstrations have started and many Hollywood celebrities are being very vocal in their opposition to the war.

As a Viet Nam Veteran who served in The Marine Corps for over 8 years, this sounds all too familiar to me. I am concerned that those opposed to the war, and they have every right to be opposed to the war, will confuse the SUPPORT OF OUR TROOPS with the support of the war.

As a child I recalled seeing old newsreels and movies of OUR HEROES returning from World War II to ticker tape parades, crowds of families, friends and supporters waving American Flags and holding up Welcome Home banners as their ships arrived back in port.

I returned from Viet Nam, like all of the other Viet Nam veterans, to NOTHING! No “Welcome Back” signs, no crowds glad to see me, no American flags being waved in celebration! I came back to war protestors chanting “Baby Killer” and displaying disrespect for our flag and our uniforms.

What did the Veterans of Viet Nam do? We honored an oath we took when we enlisted or were drafted to serve our country and obey the orders of The President of the United States, our Commander In Chief. What are the young men and women in the Armed Forces doing today? They are honoring the oath they took to our country and our Commander In Chief! They are making personal sacrifices, and some may make the ultimate sacrifice, for our freedoms and our safety.

I can turn my back on a war I may disagree with and the politicians who lead us to war, but I CANNOT, turn my back on the sons, daughters, wives and husbands of friends, families and fellow Americans that are honoring their oath to service.

From the bottom of my heart, I ask ALL who read this to, PLEASE SUPPORT OUR TROOPS in whatever way you can. RESPECT THEM FOR THEY ARE SHOWING THEIR RESPECT FOR YOU AS A FELLOW AMERICAN, BY SERVING IN THE ARMED FORCES.

I am choosing to stamp all of my correspondence with the “SUPPORT OUR TROOPS” stamp. If you prefer to just write that on all of your correspondence, do it. Do it for our TROOPS! PLEASE, SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR OUR MEN AND WOMEN IN UNIFORM. SUPPORT OUR TROOPS

SEMPER FIDELIS,
STAFF SERGEANT ROGER FINNIGAN, USMC

PS. Please participate - write it or "StampIt" for simplicity on all written correspondence, faxes, snailmail, greetings cards , etc anything on paper!
