I picked up a cheaper USB microscope from here for $90. I believe its pretty much a webcam with some optics to get it to magnify.
Its pretty damn neat, I can look at crap for hours with this thing. It is a little weird how it works, if you put something right up to it, moving the dial will focus it at a lower magnification and a higher magnification. If you want anything in between, then you need to move the microscope away from the object then focus it and it will be somewhere between those two. Also, this one didn't come with a stand like the cheaper one but it has a slightly better resolution (2.0MP vs 1.3) Here's the lower magnification on a tiny scab of mine...

As you can see, shiny stuff doesn't work the best with the little LED lights that are on it, but you can turn them off via software and just use a normal backlight if needed. Pretty neat gadget for under $100! |
