I have been looking at the Sierra Wireless cell modems and have a GX450 on my desk now. I was wondering if anyone is using anything similar that also has routing functionality? I am specifically looking for a device that will use the cell network as primary connectivity and then will be able to make a routing change if this goes down to another medium (in my case it will be IP VSAT).
The device needs to be industrialized as it will be installed in an unconditioned Hoffman enclosure. Normally I would go with a Cisco ISR800 or ISR1900 and then jsut connect the modem and IP VSAT IDU, but that will require additional expense and maintenance for the conditioned cabinet. TIA for any help. |
| I noticed the cradlepoint offerings, but the thing that hung me up was they wanted a subscription based license for enterprise class features (routing and WAN failover). At this point we are going to look at a Cisco 819HG to see how it works form factor wise. The ability to use a routing protocol and have the ability to bond multiple cellular cards is a plus that I don't see a reason to pay a subscription license for. |
