How often does your OCD force you to press check your carry piece to ensure that your round is still chambered?

I have some OCD tendencies (among other things), but press checking is not one of them... I know the condition my handgun is always in. The only ones I check, is the ones I store and don't see often.

Nowadays people with OCD can just take a pic of the stove, then later if they are like "Oh snap did I turn the stove off?!" they can just look at the pic.

Maybe OP can do the same, make a video of him doing a press check in the morning, then later if he is like "oh snap do I have a round chambered?!" he can watch the video and be like "yup, I am good"

This!  But if there is ever any doubt my G19 has a loaded chamber indicator.  I can feel if it's sticking out or not.  No press check needed.

it's not affected by it because OCD makes me do irrational things like check light switches, doors, open cabinets x amount of times

There's a witness hole on my Shield. No need to press check. I look every time I pull it out of the safe and holster it. So pretty much once a day. I also tap the mag and give it a tug to make sure it is seated.

That's really stupid.

Just get an internet enabled pistol and then install the PressCheck app on your smart phone. Then you can just check on your phone.

I drilled a 3/8" hole in my chamber so I never have to do a press check. I can now just look and see if it is loaded. You should try it too.

A press check is part of my morning routine.

1). Put on holster.
2). Check the chamber and magazine.
3). Holster carry gun.
4). Leave it the fuck alone until bed time.

Probably nowhere. I like to KNOW that it is in the chamber in the morning.

If its in a holster, its loaded.  Don't fuck with it and you won't have a negligent discharge. Do you constantly check that your belt is still buckled? Or that your still wearing under wear or socks through out the day?  I'm gonna assume you don't because you'd know if you took them off. Same with your carry piece, did you load it last week? have you shot it since?(No?) then its still loaded.
7/24/2017 3:56:14 PM EDT
[#35]
Check it once, put it in your holster and leave it there. It isn't that hard.

It's not like the itchy mites that feed on your dead skin are somehow gonna slip it out of the holster and unload it without you noticing.

If you can't do that, you need a different gun or holster that you are confident with or you need to stop carrying and stay in the basement.
7/24/2017 4:01:08 PM EDT
[#36]
Sounds silly. Maybe you should carry it with the slide back so you no longer need to presscheck.

I do a press check every time my handgun changes its carry device.
For instance, at church I carry in a portfolio device, otherwise, I use a holster.
When a change is made, a press check is done.
But only one...

Part of my morning routine is to check the light, RMR, chamber and mag.

The light is the only thing that has ever failed this test, fucking XC1.

I know what you guys are saying about the gun not unloading itself, but if I'm already checking the dot and light, I figure I might as well.
