Legit credit card company or not? I already have Amex and Citi. Looking for something for the kids. |
| I work on the merchant side of fraud investigation. Years ago (early 2000s) Capital One was like the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac of credit card companies. Give everyone anything they wanted, regardless of how creditworthy they were. When the economy went to shit and banks like Washington Mutual, MBNA, Wachovia got absorbed, I think after that Capital One got it's shit together. Their higher end cards now require a pretty high credit score and are pretty respectable. |

Their rewards are over hyped. What is your preferred benefit? I don't know what that means. What are you looking to set up? I just set up first class tickets for the whole family to travel overseas. Cost me $122. |
| Garbage. I signed up for a 5.99% for life card and once the economy folded that sent me a letter saying tough shit and I could cancel the card or new rate was going to be 18%. Never again. On year 20 or so with Chase and they are the only company that hasn't screwed me yet. |

Quoted: When you say you're looking for a card for the kids, what do you mean? Do you want a secured or unsecured card? Are you co-signing? How old are the kids? I would rather have them have their own cards separate from my account. Well, kind of... they are minors. |

(If you're not, then the APR on the card doesn't matter.) Biggest problem with Chase is their war on cash - if you try to make a deposit (or pay a CC at the counter) they make you show you license. If you're not the account holder they will refuse the transaction. (Yes, I know you can use the ATM, but it's still a scumbag way to treat your customers.) |

I've had a CapitalOne VISA for many years. 1.5% rewards. Never had any issues. I've also had accounts at CapitalOne bank. Also a good experience. Tellers are the hawtness. This. My main credit card is the Quicksilver. No gimmicks. Just 1.5% on everything. Of course, you have to be diligent about paying it off at the end of the month or the interest will bite you in the ass (just like any other credit card). |
