Quoted: Kippers are king in my book. Love them, and have since I was a little kid. View Quote My folks didn’t like them. Never had the. Growing up at all. Tried some somewhere after college and my reaction was: where have you been all my life!!! One day l, I will convert my kids to kippers and sardines. They shall not grow up deprived of delicious little fishies! Wifey’s a lost cause. |

Quoted: OP: Never buy canned salmon. Ever. It’s disgusting post spawn pinks, put through a machine. It’s literally the worst thing ever… View Quote @MedmanKS Ever try this stuff? It gets very good reviews. Vital Choice |

View Quote No… I’ve never tried it. But I’ve seen it made. Spent a year in AK hiking after college. Took lots of jobs to make money in the trail. A couple of those were working canneries during season. I was always a ‘butcher’ because I was older and could process a fish. But I saw the ‘pinks’ line, and saw the fish going in… Fucking awful. Really. If you like it, cool. Maybe I’ve seen the sausage making and it’s turned me off. But man, GOOD salmon is so damn good. I’ve filleted Kings that were sixty plus pounds. Amazing fish. And all the row that gets graded for export to Asia… Pinks literally get thrown on a machine that mechanically guts them, skins them, heads them, and ‘mechanically separates’ the meat. And these are pinks, which are the smallest and least desirable salmon. And so many of them are just floppy and gross… I was in AK for a year and never ate pink. You do you, but I won’t eat that. Pretty good time, but you see how the cheap stuff is made. |

Nuri sardines are tier 1 canned fish. I cant find them under $5 a can, but hey life is short.

I like any canned Herring in mustard sauce but my absolute favorite is "Vita" brand pickled Herring and just like most of my favorite foods, I can't find it here.

I've had homemade canned steelhead, ok not great. Homemade canned tuna is awesome.
I think of sardines, herring, and mackerel as bait. Once in a while I'll buy the little tins of smoked oysters. On a ritz with a drop of hot sauce they're pretty good. Probably horrible healthwise but whatever. |

Sardines in mustard sauce, some thinly sliced onions....mariginated in the fridge for an hour and on some saltine crackers....that is some good eating
My grandmother (born in Sicily) made the best sardine pizza....it was the absolute best.... |

View Quote No carbs, full of omega-3 fats. They're practically superfoods. I mean, I like sardines well enough, but the whole point of this thread was to find a source of omega-3 rich food. The only other place I get a lot of omega-3s is from brussels sprouts. |

Sardines in olive oil. With mustard or hot sauce on crackers.

I love sardines!
The darker and the salter the better! Eta- I just recently learned that what I love are anchovies, not sardines! I've finally learned the difference between the two after all these years. |

All of them. Stocked up at Walmart. Polar, good stuff, large pieces of herring.

Wild Planet has the best canned tuna and salmon around. Pole caught, minimally processed. The tuna is truly the best.

Quoted: Thanks guys. I ordered some mackerel in olive oil. Trying to get my Omega 3 ratio up and get rid of some inflammation. Wanting to see if I can tolerate the mackerel, and if not I’ll go back to sardines. Just as a precaution I ordered more hot sauce. And lime juice. View Quote Mackerel in olio is my favorite canned fish. Beware if you have gout as it has really high purines. |

Quoted: This thread really makes me miss my Europe trips thanks to this COVID shit!!!!! I love sardines and herring but you havent lived until you eat fresh pickled herring. I can eat this 3 times a day My Dutch buddy would just shake his head at me when I would have scrambled eggs with herring on the side for breakfast. Behold, the best way to eat herring https://i.pinimg.com/736x/43/21/fa/4321fabf93743d875aa9a02aa29af0e5--sour-cream-and-onion-happy-new-year.jpg View Quote Looks good to me. I like to make Fisherman's Eggs for breakfast, that's a meal that has some staying power. A tin of sardines with 3 eggs for breakfast will hold me over for many hours. |

My current supply.. I definitely need to diversify my stores more.. I usually have a few others in the mix.

View Quote @freeride21a I love those stands, I was in Hamburg Dec '18 and each day after work I would head to the Christmas markets cause they had several food vendors selling herring sandwiches Eat one of those and grab some warm spiced wine and enjoy the two legged scenery. |

Quoted: So I've never had mackerel. How's it taste compared to sardines or herring? View Quote I love canned fish and mackerel is pretty yucky. This is from a guy who bought and ate canned , smoked octopus from Walmart on purpose. What you want is Polar brand smoked(kippered) herring. It was pretty cheap in Amazon but everything has gone up. Sometimes you find it at Dollar Tree. Polar is the best bang for the buck. They have larger cans of salmon that are good. |

Overall best: canned oysters (or most any shellfish) and pickled herring and smoked salmon.
Otherwise, or the canned fish: 1. Herring 2. Mackerel 3. Sardines 4. Tuna 5. Salmon |

Love it all, always have. Sardines, smoked herring and oysters are my faves.
Always thought guys that are picky eaters were a little light in the loafers. |
