I just got a new desktop here at the house, and I want to pick up at least one good game today.  I especially like FPS type games, so if you guys can make some recommendations, I'd appreciate it.  I haven't been following the current game market lately because I haven't had a good PC in a long time.

I've heard of one game called F.E.A.R. which is supposed to be pretty good.  Anyone like it?  Any others out there worth getting?

Thanks.

Not really the first person kind of game....  It is "too open" in that htere is no structure or purpose for single player.

If you don't have Call of Duty 1, get it.
Then get COD2.
It isn't quite as good, but it is still great.

I've got Half-Life 2, unfortunately I can't find the 5th disc for some reason, so I don't want to purchase that again until I am SURE the disc is gone forever.

BF2 isn't really what I am looking for either, since I am not a fan of multiplayer games.

I've also got COD 1 laying around, I agree it is a terrific game.

ETA:  I've got a Radeon X600 256MEG Hypermemory card in my system.  I do not believe it supports OpenGL, if that makes any difference.

I played the BF2 demo and found it to be more of the same.  It's like an updated version of Delta Force, which was no better than an arcade game.

For a rather realistic FPS game, get Call of Duty I and/or II.

Battlefield 2.
My lord, this game is spectacular and addictive.

Half-Life 2
Unrivaled graphics and gameplay, and you get Counterstrike source, Day of Defeat source, and Half-Life 2 Deathmatch.

all of the above

plus

DOOM3
Quake 4
Postal 2

postal 2 is the most non-politically correct game I have ever seen.

More like an obsession than a game… hard core.

Love it.
