It should work on pretty much any of the current DSLR's and the only thing you may lose depending on which model you have is going to be autofocus, On a camera like say the older Nikon D40 that does NOT have the autofocus motor built into the camera and is instead built into the AFS lenses which have the autofocus motor built into them
All in all it is a nice lense and I enjoyed mine when I had it |

The 70-300 isn't as useful as an 18-55 for general purpose photography. I use a 12-24 more than any other lens.

The 70-300 is great for outdoor work but you may want a wider field if you move into smaller indoor areas. I'm stuck with the 18-55 but I want to move to the 12-24 or something in that range. |

Thanks for the info. Excuse the ignorance, but will this lens work for other brands, or only Nikon cameras?

the D40, D40x, D60, D3000, the new D3100 and the D5000 do NOT have the necessary focus motor built in to the body.
