How many calories should a 6' 1" 30-ish male be taking in per day? My only real excercise, aside from average activity (walking, going up and down stairs, etc.), is about 30 minutes a day on my excercise bike. |

Hello, I think a general rule of thumb is 10 calories per pound of weight. So if you weighed 200 pounds you would need roughly 2000 calories per day to maintain that weight. It all depends on exercise level and activity level per day also. If you exercise or have a lot of activities you can bump it up a couple hundred calories. If you are more sedentary you should drop it a hundred calories or so. To lose weight you want to eat roughly 400-500 calories less per day, so if you weighed 200 pounds you would want to eat 1500-1600 calories per day. We tend to eat more then we really need, as this is the age of the supersize and big gulp. Look at serving sizes on the food labels that you eat. That gives a general indication. A serving of meat is roughly the size of a pack of playing cards, from what I remember. |
| Talking about a size meat. My wife and I were just talking about that tonight at dinner. We were both cutting into our nice New York stips. They had to be 12 ounces. I was telling her about what my instuctor said in my nutrition class. You dinner meat should not exceed 4 ounces . Roughly the size the palm of your hand. Something about the body not being able to utilize more protien than that at one time. |
