Getting Cable and Internet at my new place. It will be cheaper than DSL/Phone and Satellite. I have 1 TV with built in hi-def tuner. 1 Standard Analog ("cable ready") TV. The service I am signing up for is "Service Electric" Digital Cable. The salesman says I need a Hi-Def Digital box to get Hi-Def cable. I was under the impression that if I ran the Cable direct to my TV, I could pick up Hi-Def signals regardless. The analog TV would get standard cable channels with no problems. I was also under the impression that the only thing the "Digital" part of the cable did for me was the interactive TV programming guides, etc. I don't intend PPV or even likely getting any premium channels. Any thoughts? Thanks!! |

You need the box for 2 way communication..ie Video on Demand. You may be able to plug the HD set in and get the local in the clear digital signals, but for encrypted HD and 2 way, you need the box. Service Electric is one of the oldest cable companies in history, they started a few years before my grandfather did back in 1953. |
