Quoted: I intend to! It is only 45 mins away. I should have done it before now.Congrats! BTDT, several times. If you (general "you," not addressing the OP) are within a reasonable drive of either of the physical CMP stores, do yourself a favor and visit some time. |

I'm jealous as hell of that awesome looking GI wood. Nicely done. Mine came with birch which is slightly but on the plus side my metal is excellent, great bore, and great function. The CMP is putting out some nice product in the service grade category boys, and when they're gone that's it for cheap prices. Check out what M-1 carbines are going for on the auction portion of the CMP site. That should be motivation enough to get a nice Garand for $600 and some surplus ammo now while the gettin is good. |

Awesome. Not to hijack, but what happens when cmp runs out of garands? Do they start selling m-16s to class III holders?? The CMP's congressional charter limits them to selling .30 and .22 caliber rifles. Remember that the DCM (forerunner to the CMP) almost went away during the Clinton era, and it was rescued only by making them self sufficient and appeasing the gun grabbers. So no 1911's, no M16's (I think they can't even sell parts). What we need is a friendly senator to slip something in an appropriations bill removing the constraints on the CMP and make them the primary distributor for ALL surplus military small arms, within the limits of the NFA, GCA, and instant background check. They have some sort of exception that allows them to send rifles directly to non-license holders, but I could see if they weren't allowed to do that with 1911's. Now, where's my FFL03... |

Very nice. Get an adjustable gas plug so you can shoot any .30-06 ammo and let those godless fascists and communists have it. Is that a big deal to swap out?? Or an expensive swap? (I know very little about garands) The standard gas plug you remove with a screwdriver. |
