http://www.odcmp.com/Sales/scrap.htm The scrap material lots will consist of the following items:
|

Quoted: A pallet of scrapped 1903s is going for 3 large right now. Probably worth it. They look pretty good and the parts should sell for enough to cover the purchase price. There might even be a recoverable rifle in there. It seems to me like you wouldn't have any usable parts? made inoperable by the US Military through welding of the receiver and plugging of the barrel. Many of these will be stripped barreled receivers, some will be complete rifles, most will be missing parts To me it sounds like they've stripped anything usable. |

Why bother? Initially I thought the same thing and for an individual it probally Isn't feasible to repair, sell, or part out. But for a large outfit that specializes in this sort of thing like SARCO that has the manpower, tooling and knowedge it could be worth it. I just don't know enough about 1903s to make that determination. But there are people that do. ETA: on second thought the CMP is just such an organization and they don't want em! |
| I'd get on the CMP boards and read them before commenting, these boxes are filled with crap that CMP refuses to sell in their E-Store or in their North and South stores. In other words, it's a box of pure shit that they don't want to send to the scrapper or burn because of the flack they'd get about destroying "historic" weapons... so Orest did the next best thing, sell it to suckers who'll buy anything. |

Without reading the boards, I get that impression straight away. But your comment about "historic" weapons makes sense and answers my "why bother" question. |

I would like a wall hanger, beat up is fine. I'm not gonna buy a pallet of em though. Could you make money turning them into hangers with nice mounts? You can buy a parade rifle for $50. There probably isn't much of a market for wall hangers. But maybe... |

I wish many other advertisers would take a lesson from the guys who write ads for the CMP. No misleading descriptions or nebulous terminology. The only way it could be clearer would be for them to say "This stuff is broke. If you want something that ain't jacked up, go buy something else."

| Whoever buys this junk will still pull some usable stuff out, especially with the bayonets. They might not be pretty and definitely won't be in the best shape, but some will be usable. Once this stuff sells, give it a couple weeks and you'll start seeing some of it for sale online and at funshows. |

I think certain vendors often times open crates and go "oh shit" when they see they imported something not quite as nice as described. Yet the damage is done and they try to minimize the losses and maximize the profits. I've seen some parts kits that looked like they were dredged up from a lake, they sure weren't advertised as "completely fucked". I don't think the CMP as a business works quite the same. Either way, I'm not disagreeing with you. Honesty is always refreshing and by far the best policy. |
