HP Pavilion

Used an after-market software to burn some CD's (Roxio)...when I deleted it, apparently it also screwed up the HP Adaptec CD writer software.
So now I basically have 2 read-only cd trays.

The "recovery disk" will not allow you to cherry pick the individual software you want to re-install.
It gives me only two choices:
1- reinstall ALL the original software without reformatting
2- reinstall ALL of the original software after blanking out the whole computer. And you lose ALL files and software that didn't come from the factory.

...says" please backup all files you wish to save before using this option"....Hello....I don't have a CD burner and  I'd need a mountain of floppy disks to try to save all the crap on the computer.

Any recommendations on some software that will get my CD burner running again (besides that Roxio junk) ?
I really don't want to re-install all the old unused junk from the original software just for one file, plus with my limited recovery options , I'm afraid I'll inadvertently blank out the whole computer.
Thanks.

Roxio Easy CD Creator used to be really good, but then it went to hell.  This (Method 1) should fix your problem:

support.microsoft.com/kb/q270008/

Best CD/DVD writing software out there right now is Nero:

ww2.nero.com/enu/index.html

Hope this helps...
