About Iraq intelligence re WMDs.

he's a good man and I'm proud he was my President. He carries a tremendous burden the rest of his life regarding the loss of life in Iraq. I fully believe he was not careless in going to war and the responsibility for the war falls directly on Saddam Hussein. If he didn't have an arsenal of bio and nuc weapons he only needed to show the world where and how he destroyed them.

Saddam Hussein specifically told his interrogators that he wanted the world to believe he had WMDs, because he was more afraid of Iran than he was of the U.S.  He believed (based on prior experience) that the American President didn't have the balls to do more than lob a few bombs at a factory.

I agree 100%.

He definitely made some big mistakes with spending and the border, but on the issues of 9/11 and Iraq, I think he did far better than anyone alive today will give him credit for.

I wish him a peaceful retirement. I even hope to meet him someday (I may actually have a chance).

He could have been a better pres. for sure.  His greatest achievment will be two solidly conservative supreme court judges.

Whatever the Dems ran to compete against Bush was far, far worse.

On the contrary, I think hindsight and history will grant him some much deserved vindication.

Yeah, that was unnecessary.  I wish he would have said that they did their best to get gasoline prices down but he was a little late to stop the recession.

Bush never stood up for himself. He's the pussy in my opinion. I'm not saying he isn't a good man. In fact, he was probably too nice for the job.

I wish Bush had gone a lot more conservative, since he was gonna get attacked from the Left and hated by "everyone" anyway.

I'm mixed about his apologizing. I think he should stand tall and say "I did my absolute best."

IMHO, his apologizing is making him look weak.

Bush was a fuckup of biblical proportions and delivered our political structure to the democrats on a platinum plate.  He's also a fucking retard who can't say the word "nuclear."

You shouldn't be in charge of something that can destroy the world if you can't pronounce it correctly.

That was a headline on Drudge for a story that did not so much as even mention Bush's name.

Don't get news from headlines.

No, not quite the fuck-up you make him out to be.  He was up against a stacked deck, and not all politicians are cut out to survive in such a hostile enviornment.  From the get-go, he was villified by the MSM, with the only break in between being 9/11.  From April of 2004 on, the beatings picked up again, while Dems were given a free pass to rewrite history in their favor.  It was disgusting.

Bush had a better GPA in college than AlGore, and Kerry had the stench of treason around him from his falsified testimony after his abreviated "tour" in Vietnam.  The Dems offered their share of mental midgets as well.

Things he did right included lowering income taxes (amongst others), reversing the Bush/Clinton military cutbacks, appointing two strict constructionist judges to the SCOTUS,  appointing Amb. Bolton to the UN (who refused to allow the UN to dictate limitations on our U.S. Constitution), upholding the dignity of his office, and putting the fear of Allah into any muslim country thinking about turning a blind eye toward or providing aid to terrorists planning on attacking the U.S.

He should have closed our borders.  This is a huge failure in his legacy.  Unforgivable.  He also failed to use the "bully pulpit" to crusade for causes that would have put the Dems on the defense, like reforming or repealing the CRA of 1995.  Bush failed to show enough leadership to fire Rumsfield sooner than he did.  Bush failed to do alot of things.

For me, overall,  the fact that the MSM and Dems hated him simply proves to me he wasn't all that bad a president.

Good read, interesting perspective.

Do you think he could have done more on the Southern Border w/o the help from Congress? I'm not sure on that one. Could an executive order put up a fence? I suppose it would have to be in a budget and then get funded. With a Dem Congress and folks like McCain pushing for amnesty how could he have done different?

get over it

Miriam Webster:
usage Though disapproved of by many, pronunciations ending in \\-kyə-lər\\ have been found in widespread use among educated speakers including scientists, lawyers, professors, congressmen, United States cabinet members, and at least two United States presidents and one vice president. While most common in the United States, these pronunciations have also been heard from British and Canadian speakers.

I watched the interview last night. He said his other regret was that he didn't get his way on illegal immigrants.

I like GW as a person, and I think he largely did as good a job as anyone could have given what he was handed on 11 September. However, he failed the country on illegal immigration.

I don't know what comes after "Biblical" so I can only guess how much a fuck up your Messiah will be. He's also an America hating prick.

I have a huge problem with spending, the patriot act and the apparent lack of planning for what to do in Iraq after the invasion, which I guess falls more on Rummy. That being said, I would much rather have him in the Oval Office than Dear Leader.

i think we won't really know how good he is until we see the future.  there are alot of good things he did, its just that whatever happens, people blame it on the president, whether it's his fault or not.  How many democrats wanted to invade Iraq?  but they don't take shit for it.  The last 2 years the congress has sucked ass, but now it's only bush's fault that things are going south.

As someone said previously, bush did many things that i thought were good.  If anything, he showed people that we have the stones to put our words into actions.  or we did, till BHO was elected...edit: i mean tentatively elected...electoral college votes on dec 15th.

Bush should be sorry for a lot of things. He really ruined the Republican party and paved the way to Obama winning. McCain sucked as a candidate but really any Republican was tainted this time around thanks to Bush.

I'm not terribly impressed with him, but I have a sneaking suspicion we'll all be looking back on this as "the good times" in the not-to-distant future.
