I had another thread on here about someone using a loader on our land without permission.

Now we are building a fence unfortunately.

We want to build a fence made of pressure treated 6" round wood posts with 4 or 5 smooth wire runs.

I don't know the typicals for spacing, height, etc, etc.  I know a long time ago I pounded many steel posts and there were BLM details for wire location and post spacing.  None of that should really apply in this case, but I would like to know thoughts on the wood post / smooth wire route.

I was thinking like 10'-15' on post spacing?  Maybe like a 6' post and bury 2' of it?
I don't want to do it twice or have to repair it when it is done.
I don't want a fence that leans and doesn't look pleasing.

15' between posts.

Metal posts would be much less expensive and are relatively easy to pound into the ground as opposed to digging holes for wooden posts. And why not at least the top strand being barbed or razor wire? Just because.

Are you planning on electrifying the smooth wire?   Just looking to keep people out or also keep animals in?

You don't have to dig a hole for a post like that.  Wheatheart post pounder will do the job nicely.  But they're expensive so you probably want to hire it done.  Or just put in t posts.

Five wires of smooth wire with green treated posts would look a lot better than Barbwire fence.  And if you insulate the wires at the post, you can put a shocker on it.

You can contact the guys at kencove.com for info on spacing, etc but most of it's common sense.

I have pounded posts.  I own a pounder, but I want it to look nice.

15' between makes me happy.  less posts.

What about diameter?  I see it ranges from about 3" - 6"

Unless they are corner posts where you need to control tension, or unless you have big livestock that are going to be leaning on/scratching themselves on the post, you do not need 6" posts, 4" treated will work fine if you don't want the metal T posts.  A hot wire can prevent a lot of fence damage if you do run stock.
