Which flashlight, that takes "normal" D batteries, is the brightest, and which is the best quality?

Thanks Guys

Yeah, I was thinking Maglite also, but I wanted to know if "the collective" had any better ideas.  Thanks for the input.

You got a surplus of D batteries or something?

Get a MagLite.  Cheap, durable, bright enough, efficient club.  I've got one in my car, always.

I've also got a Surefire, in case I want something really lit up.

If you want the brightest light from a Maglite, get one of those Kryptonite bulbs. Almost twice as bright. I think they're available at your local Wall-Mart. BUT, there is no free lunch, your batteries will last about half as long as the regular bulbs.

Check out CandlePower Forums. You thought aluminum mounts were expensive, wait till you see how much some people pay for their flashlights.

I wouldn't recommend Mag lights as their beam is too ringy for me. Try looking into some LED lights like the Elektrolumens Tri-Star Phazer with 3 3-watt Luxeon Stars.

Maglight. The Kryptonite bulb helps with the "ring" effect as well. I keep one in every vehicle, but I agree that I use a SureFire when I really need some LIGHT!

I have a 4 cell MAglight. It is very bright and it is heavy too, it could be used as a weapon in a pinch.
