Wow. It'll be interesting to find out if he really climbed in without her knowing it. I can't imagine the loss. I pray it wasn't her own negligence.

Kid "may have climbed into car without anyone knowing."

A four year old couldn't open the door?

Well SOMEONE should have been missing the kid if he wasn't supposed to be in the SUV.

Sad case all around.

In all fairness, someone else may have been in charge of the child while she was getting married that day.

Not to sound callous, but when i was a kid, if I got uncomfortable in the car waiting for mom or dad, I rolled down the window or opened the door. its a choice....and darwin made this one.

If it had electric windows, the kid wouldn't have been able to open them. Maybe he just didn't understand that the locks still work?

If I ever see a woman leave a little kid in a car to go into a store or salon with the windows up and the car off on a very hot day, I will smash her window in a heartbeat. She may be pissed, but fuck her. I wouldn't take more than 2 seconds deciding to do it either. I would walk away and not look back.

A child can get into the harness of a car seat, but they can't undo the lower (crotch) seatbelt. Just about all modern cars have electric windows and child proof doors.

The child can't get out of the car seat, roll down the window, or open the door

Very sad indeed, however a ford expedition will unlock when you use the inside door handle. So even though it was all electric it will open, ford locks are flush with the door panel when locked.
I have seen wedding day craziness and i am not surprised that the child was overlooked. If only....

I know someone who works security in a casino.

Asians will abandon their children in a place set up to watch children inside the casino.

He told me many...many times they are told that they close at 10:00pm

but the Asians never come back to get them until well after 2 or 3 in the morning
and have to pick them up at the security office.

Happens all the time with Asians

I'm talking about children 3 and 4 years old ...not teenagers

They never say that they didn't understand the rules.

They say they were gambling.

Exactly.

I would also consider the following action, that should only take a few moments. If you're concerned about the child's life, it seems reasonable to get medical help on the way.

Prior to smashing window, the cell phone comes out - "Hello, 911? I am standing in front of a locked car with the windows rolled up and a child secured in a seat. It is over 90 degrees outside. I will be smashing the window now to save this child's life. He may have been in there a while - please send EMS, as well as an officer to take my statement."

When I was four , I was reading
A door handle was no prob...........but I think I would have got out when it was hot

Something is fishy with this.....................

People who do this should have their right to reproduce taken away permanently by court order.
Link Posted: 7/21/2008 2:10:49 PM EST
I would do it for kids and for animals too.

In AZ it is legal for officers to break windows for animals.

So I assume that it is also perfectly legal to do so for children.

Most modern vehicles have a child interlock on the rear doors that make it where they can't be opened from inside, even if the door lock is undone. They have to be opened from the outside.

This is still pretty sad.

I used to work in a machine shop with a guy from Vietnam, he said gambling to his culture is like drugs to our culture.Lots of them are addicted to it.

I think that's true just about everywhere, but I stand ready to be corrected. Seems like every summer we hear a couple of these stories.

This type of thing happened to a friend of a coworker (I don't know the coworker very well).

Her friend's husband had their infant kid in the car in the morning, but was too caught up in doing a few errands and getting to the office. He 'forgot' the kid in the car and the kid died.

I refrained from replying to the email she sent to everyone in the company... but I cannot fathom HOW someone FORGETS they put their INFANT child in the car!!

In OP subject's case... perhaps the kid was supposed to be in someone else's care?

I am not commenting on the article in the OP. However, I applaud people’s willingness to rescue a child in distress. Be smart about it though. Calling 911 sounds reasonable. You may also want to enlist help of any “reputable” looking person in the parking area, especially another apparent parent. It sure would be nice to have some assistance, not to mention corroboration when EMS and LE arrives. I know everyone on Arfcom is a true bad-a** capable of slaying hordes of zombies, but another sympathetic bystander could also come in handy if the jacka** parent comes out as you are busting a window.

Should lock her in the car for 3 hours under the same conditions.
