What should I use on my Danner's?  Danner recommends a water based dressing.

If they are leather, get the Danner boot dressing. You can order it on line from them.

I use vangards mink oil on all my leather boots (silicone and lanolin tho)

btw if you decide to use mink oil keep your boots away from your dog I had one pair that got eaten after i put it on(for some reason they really love mink oil)  hock.gif

For my boots, I use Sno Seal - it's not a petroleum product.

I read years ago that petroleum prods actually damage leather.  I do use Neatsfoot on my catcher's glove though - it helps to soften it up when new.

I have had at least a dozen pair of Danner's and have used Sno Seal on them as long as I can remember.  I have two pair now.

I've also used Sno-Seal on my Danners. It's never been a problem.

Well, you gonna tell us where you bought them and for how much?

(I just ran across the thread where you asked (and I replied) about where to buy Danners.

HaHaHa, sorry Backstop.  I ordered them from Baker's In Oregon.  Best prices I've seen anywhere and very friendly on the phone.  I'll report back when I receive them.

Sno-Seal is in the running, but I don't like the wax build-up.  I'm gonna check wal Mart and consider my options.

EDIT:  Forgot to say thanks, I'll save that link as I gotta buy boots these days.

Mink oil + oven.

Do NOT over cook.

Nod here too on the Sno seal.

Use a hair dryer for maximum penetration.

Word.

I ruined a $100 catcher's glove back in 1982 (or so) that way.

Danner boot dressing on boots with Gore-Tex is a must.
Mink oil will clog the Gore-Tex pores and not allow it to breathe. They sell the boot dressing at any Danner shoe retailer and at Cabelas. Works nice on leather jackets too.

If anybody has a can of Danner boot dressing please post the information on the label.

If they are NOT inulated then I use Huberd's Show Grease, its made in McMinville OR. It is a pine tar and beeswax waterproofer/conditioner. I've used it for around15 years on my Danners and have had no problems. But if they are insulated then I use Danners shoe grease.

Nik Wax is the only way to go for waterproofing. You could waterproof a sponge with that stuff. It's water based.

+1 on the Sno-Seal. Melted in with a hair dryer. If your out in the snow at all there is nothing better. I treat my boots 2-3 times in the winter, I'm out in the slush alot, try everthing else then you'll go back to Sno-seal

I've got a pair of Lowe's that are almost 30 years old now.  I've only used sno-seal and dryers on them.  Granted I'm from So. Cal and they don't see too much snow or deep water over the years but the leather is in pretty good shape.
