Bob Hope shines all the brighter by comparison with the so-called "stars' of today.
Clooney, Hilton, Streisand, etc. Hacks, all. A few stand-up folks, Bruce Willis comes to mind. few and far between. |

He was born in England (1903), his birth name was Leslie Downs Hope. He came to America when he was 4 years old. I love watching anything with Bob Hope. Great guy! |

Bob Hope was a GREAT American. We saw him and Ann Margaret in 1966. I had the duty and missed the show...but it was great just being there and knowing that Bob Hope and his incredible crew really cared.
Can't say that for the majority of the liberal Hollyweird pussies now. I just read yesterday that the USO is having trouble recruiting top performers because they are either totally against the war or scared.

Ya, I watched a good portion of that show today. The 1990 show I rememeber exactly where I was, on the Panama Canal, guarding Gamboa prison.
 My Grandpa saw him in WW2 in the Pacific, Uncle Frank saw him in Korea, Uncle Ronnie saw him in Vietnam. A great American, Miss you Bob.

A great man indeed. Saw my family through from WWII to the time of his passing. All of my family who saw him at the USO shows speak of him greatly. I remember watching his TV specials when I was younger. I sometimes think I was born in the wrong era. God bless ya Bob!

My grandfather was in the navy during the the Big One: WWII.
He said he met Bob Hope while they were helping build the stage or something for his show. Bob Hope came around to check on how it was going. My grandfather said a sailor accidently dropped a board on the ground and Bob Hope starting berating and cussing the sailor at the top his voice, screaming and calling him names in front of everyone for a long time. My grandfather would always curse Bob Hope's name and refuse to watch him on TV. My grandfather was in the Pacific and he never forgave the Japanese for what they did. He always referred to Japanese as "lousy stinkin' japs". He also referred to Bob Hope as "lousy stinkin' Bob Hope". |

Now now now... I bet a lot of the members of this board have great american ancestors who were born British, myself included...  Their gun laws might be fucked, but at least they remember their friends and back us up when someone attacks us. More than can be said for a certain ROP'er-loving country we saved twice in the space of 27 years and than wasted 58,000 more of our boys on 20 years later when we tried to unfuck another one of their messes. |
