This is just a rant...but I really wonder sometimes.

[red][rant mode on][/red]I see people all the time not being able to use proper board code.  The can't figure out how to post a pic.  They can't figure out how to get a link to work right.  Their smileys never work right. They yell at moderators for deleting post when the author deleted it(trash can).  And they can't figure out how to properly quote someone("").

Are these people using 10" monitors were the red lettered words "Board Code" don't show up at the bottm of the posting page?  Or are these people just freaking moron??  I mean really....how hard is it to follow instructions?? [?]

I sure hope these same people aren't working on their own AR15.  [red][/rant mode off][/red]

I was an English minor, and NO.

Final punctuation always goes INSIDE the final quote.

I think. [BD]

BigUp -

QUOTATION MARKS

Rule 1. Periods and commas always go inside quotation marks, even inside single quotes.

Examples The sign changed from "Walk," to "Don’t Walk," to "Walk" again within 30 seconds.
She said, "Hurry up."
She said, "He said, ‘Hurry up.’"

Rule 2. The placement of question marks with quotes follows logic. If a question is in quotation marks, the question mark should be placed inside the quote.

Examples She asked, "Will you still be my friend?"

Do you agree with the saying, "All’s fair in love and war"?
Here the question is outside the quote.

NOTE: Only one ending punctuation mark is used with quotation marks. Also, the stronger punctuation mark wins. Therefore, no period after war is used.

Rule 3. When you have a question outside AND inside a quote, use only one question mark and place it inside the quotation mark.

Example Did she say, "May I go?"

Rule 4. Use single quotation marks for quotes within quotes. Note that the period goes inside all quote marks.

Example He said, "Mary said, ‘Do not treat me that way.’"

Rule 5. Use quotation marks to set off a direct quotation only.

Examples "When will you be here?" he asked.
He asked when you will be there.

OK folks lemme school you guys on a few tricks so that we can get away from Red X syndrome.

First and foremost:
You would need a webserver to host your pics on the net. You cannot post pics from your HD.
Some sites do not allow you to hotlink pics directly. The best thing is to dnload em to your HD and host em on a webserver. Such as:

http://photos.msn.com/Home.aspx
http://www.webshots.com/homepage.html

Yahoo photo album does not allow you to hotlink from your album either. It may show up on your puter, but that's only cause you have the pic already cached in your system.

If you are an AR15.com paying member. Goatboy has not set up a private album for you to use. Just go into your profile and create an album and mark as private. For those that are not paying members, you may use your own ISP free web page to host pics. All ISP give you a free space to host your own webpage. Its part of your monthly service. If you are all ready using this and it is full, use a free web hosting place. Here are a few:

http://free.prohosting.com/
http://www.freewebspace.com/
http://www.freeservers.com/

Most of these host will allow for up to 50megs of space for free and up to 3MG of bandwidth free per month. Pics do not use up that much bandwidth and should be enough.

So how would you upload your pics to be hosted. You would need a File Transfer Protocol client. The one I use is fairly simple. Just drag and drop. Download it here: http://www.rocketdownload.com/details/util/937.htm

Once that is done you can now host it and post it.

So how can you do that.

For pics: You must use the URL addy where the pic is hosted ex: http://www.awesome-als.net/images/mickythanks01.jpg
Make sure that your extensions end in .jpg .gif .bmp Those are the only pic files supported by this board that I know of. The best way to get the URL addy is to right click on the pic and chose "properties" a pop up window will then appear with the URL of the pic. Highlight this and then right click again and select "copy" then paste it onto your post.

Once you've gotten the URL you would then need to parse it by enclosing it between [ img ] and end it with [ /img ]

EXAMPLE:
[ img ]  type url here [ /img ]

For posting vids(Warning uses lots of bandwidth)
Again you would need a webserver to do so. Sorry you cannot use a pic hosting server for this. Vid formats can be: .RM .MPG .MPEG .ASF .WMV .AVI .MOV
To post, just use the URL ex: http://www.awesome-als.net/hotpants.wmv and parse it by enclosing the URL between [ url ]  and end it with [ /url ]

EXAMPLE:
[ url ]  type url here [ /url ]

http://www.awesome-als.net/hotpants.wmv

Hope that helps.

Smilies apart, Garandman, the mysteries of English stem from the difficulty of trying to force a round Germanic peg into a square Latin hole.

Apart from the fundamentals, much of what we consider to be correct English grammar is the result of arbitrary decisions made by individuals based on no more than their own, personal opinion. And, frankly, some of the examples you quote are clumsy attempts to apply such arbitrary 'rules'.

(You will note the period outside the single inverted commas – this is correct.)

Ending a sentence with three inverted commas (.' ") is an example of such contortionism and the rigid application of arbitrary 'rules' that make things more difficult than necesary for the reader.

For example:

She said, "He said 'Hurry up.' "
She said that he said, "Hurry up."

He said, "Mary said, 'Do not treat me that way.' "
He said that Mary said, "Do not treat me that way."

If yuh gonna be the the grammar Nazi, read Mein Kampf.
