I’m sure that many of you know that Suprnova.org has shut down. Let’s use the ARFcom hive mind to come up with a few new torrent search engines.

A few I’ve been using:

www.lokitorrent.com/
isohunt.com/
Link Posted: 12/26/2004 7:29:19 PM EDT
I got a list at home. I'll try to post it later.

I hear Google works allright. Just search for whatever file you want, and put AND .torrent on the end.

Also, tvtorrents.tv and btefnet.com are good for TV shows.

Whats all the rave on this bit torrent? is it simple to use like the P2P transfers? what is needed? I'd like to get back into downloading again but want to know more about the format you guys are using. I got tried of WinMX. Are the bit torrents for movies mostly? I've heard alittle about it but did get envolved with it.
Link Posted: 12/28/2004 3:00:21 PM EDT
you need a Bittorrent client. Google for it. No its not all movies...they got everything.

suprnova is shutdown now. Dont go to Supernova.com its a scam.

for the noobies:
1- download the client here bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/
2-get torrents at isohunt.com and www.torrentreactor.com or any of the other sites. A torrent is a small {kb's} file that routes you to a "tracker", the tracker is then tells your PC who and where to download from. Then you download. All this happens seemlessly.

Simple Question:

What the hell does Kazaa lite have to do with Bit Torrent?

Answer: Nothing. THey may both be P2P programs. That is all.

A question was asked about where to download Kazaa lite. The thread was locked as a dupe, citing this thread.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Over?

If i ask about a Colt AR15, are you gonna lock my thread cause someone else posted about a Glock 17? They're both firearms.

lets not get this tread lock please, at least not before I get home tonight to try out some of these replies. I have never used bit Torrent. And still have a small idea what I'll be doing, butI'll go home and download the client first and see what happens.

EDITED:

I saw no mention of any illegal activities. Peer to peer sharing of non copyrighted files is perfectly legal. Now, asking where to download the latest pirated software or MP3's most certainly is.

I saw no mention of what was being downloaded..merely a request for a link to the software.

The client is the program that actually does the downloading. The way it normally works is that you find a torrent file on the web. The torrent file is around 30k and contains information about the file to be downloaded and a pointer to the tracker for that file. You download the torrent file normally with a web browser, and then pass it to the BitTorrent client, which then starts downloading the actual file.

BitTorrent is a distributed file downloading protocol, not a network. You can't find files on it, you just use it to download files you've already found. It's popular because it automatically manages a large number of downloads. Each client also uploads the file to other clients while it downloads. This allows large files to be distributed quickly even if the person hosting them doesn't have a lot of bandwidth.

It is used for many legitimate things, like downloading Linux CDs. It is also used for downloading movies and TV shows. You can find torrents of near-DVD quality movies online, and download them in a few hours.

Do your torrents when d/l'ing sometimes crash your computer? mine does, it depends on file- some are ok...other will crash it to blue screen. Using the original bit-torrent- latest version.

awesome, I also switched over to "Bit Tornado" and set the concurrent connections at 50. That fixed it.

The 'client' is the software that resides on YOUR computer- you have an email 'client' like Outlook.

The best clients are from open sourece sites like sourceforge.net

I like azureus ar the client.

DL that first.

then look for torrent - either through google or through sites such as :

loki torrent - U register once.

torrent reactor - if it's still up

and the new Muff Torrent from the folks at Loki torrent.

ISO hunt is also good, I just don't use it very much.

Loki and Muff allow comments on dl's before U spend 3 hours on the dl. and also ratings - 1-5 stars.

This site is in German, but it has links to some GREAT torrent sites:
Torrent Overzickten

I also use the following:

Torrent Spy

MiniNova (I think it is a site developed by some of the Suprnova team)

Want Warez

Also, Sloncek, the main developer of Suprnova.org, is working on a Bit Torrent P2P client much like Kazaa or WinMX. It will be able to find torrent trackers from other clients using the software and it is called "eXeem".

Good Point Beer slayer, but I have a question regarding the copyright act's "FAIR USE" clause. As I understand it if I own movie "whatever" I can then make other copies of "Whatever" to use in other places like at other dvd players in the house etc or for backup purposes right?

The reason I ask is that my daughter has scratched her "Shrek" DVD AGAIN, this would be the third time I replace that @#@#$ movie and I don't want to go buy another one.

Is it legal for me to download a copy of it and burn it to DVD and use that? I still have TWO, count em' TWO copies of Shrek, neither of which play anymore and I am not going to buy it again.

I just want to make sure I understand that fair use thing correctly.

When I tried lokitorrent just now, I got

There are websites that provide legal downloads. This is not one of them.

This website has been permanently shut down by court order because it facilitates the illegal downloading of copyrighted motion pictures. The illegal downloading of motion pictures robs thousands of honest, hard-working people of their livelihood, and stifles creativity. Illegally downloading movies from sites such as these without proper authorization violates the law, is theft, and is not anonymous. Stealing movies leaves a trail. The only way not to get caught is to stop.

Actually, the MPAA, RIAA, and so on would prefer that you buy another copy. And if you don't, they will send four huge guys to pound you in the ass and shoot your dog.

But if you're asking me, go ahead and make a copy, just shut up about it afterwards. And don't give your daughter the original to shred again!

BTW, someone mentioned that Hollywood Video has a machine that will resurface a damaged DVD. You might go by one of those places and ask if they will fix yours for a small fee.
