At Savannah airport, the airport police and local sheriff's deputies are checking the trunks of cars.  They are not opening any luggage which makes the point of looking in the trunk mute.

Jesse has called out the NG for the MPLS/ST Paul airport as well.

Anyone see the guv of SD on CNN yesterday?  He did one better.  He said the guard wasn't good enough, so he got a bunch of highly trained tactical response guys with MG's to guard SD's airports.

He sounded like he was a bit out of control.

Yep, I had my trunk searched and my DL info recorded by the cops when I returned a rental car to Providence, RI.

Goodbye 4th Amendment.  I won't be consenting next time.  I didn't consent to the bag searches (which they did anyway)

This whole thing is SO stupid. This won't stop anything.

I spent last week dropping off people at SEATAC, I told the policeman at the first checkpoint that I was carrying conceled. They told me (made it very clear) that I should not go into the terminal for any reason with my firearm loaded.
No problems.

Beer Slayer:  Maybe it’s overkill.  Maybe GWB knows something we don’t.  Maybe it’s just a ploy to reassure folks and get them flying again.

I haven’t the slightest idea which, but at least there’s no great harm being done to anyone.

Here, they still carry M-16 with M-203 launchers.  I think that is a major overkill.
