Microsoft Security Essentials I had Avast and ZoneLabs on my just-died computer. And I'd run Malwarebytes and Spybot from time to time. Rarely found anything. Subnet and others told me MSE for my new one. And maybe something like Threatfire to snag the one's that aren't in the database yet. |
AVG
Ad-Aware Spy-bot S&D Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Microsoft Security Essentials |
Quoted: Microsoft Security Essentials +1 Get THAT and Malwarebytes and you're all set. |
i scrubbed fake anti virus programs from 2 different customers monday who were running AVG.
AVG=FAIL |
Just Microsoft Security Essentials. Don't run anything else, the goal is to bog down your computer as little as possible.
Panda CLOUD Free
speeds up surfing works great http://www.cloudantivirus.com/en/ |
Avira catches a TON of things AVG missed. I have unistalled AVG and now use Avira in conjunction with NoScript on my Firefox browser.
This seems to eliminate pretty much all problems.... <Knock on wood> |
McAfee from Purplus, I order a new cd every December http://store.purplus.net/mcafee.html
Usually go with the 3 user internet security for $16.00 but may go with the total protection 3 user when its out for 2011 Also Malware Bytes |
bitdefender online. not a constant run, but a disinfector. Not typically blocked by most viruses as it's not viewed as as Anti virus by their logic

I don't know shit about virii. I use a mac. But my wife uses a PC. I am struggling right now to get Verizon Internet Security Suite downloaded on her laptop.
Are you telling me there is good FREE anti-virus stuff out there? |

Are you telling me there is good FREE anti-virus stuff out there? Yes, there is! That Verizon Internet Security is absolutely terrible. Please do not install that and pay the extra each month for it. Just use Microsoft Security Essentials and have MalwareBytes on hand in case anything gets by. |

Microsoft Security Essentials This. Not avg. Although I add that with the caveat that I think most malware today isn't necessarily a traditional virus as much as a web exploit, often with stuff like acrobat or flash. I can't recommend secunia's psi scanner highly enough to keep that stuff in check. |
Guardian855 and Goosey.
So, I can download that free, got it. Whatabout the malwarebytes? Do you go for the paid one or just use the free version occasionally? |
Free AV is like bargain bin condoms.
Kaspersky and forget about it. |
Avast is the best free
Kapersky is the best paid. only run 1 Anti-virus at a time. |
Quoted: agreed but wifey loves her fucking PC. Quoted: What's the best program these days? OS X |

My personal experiences
Microsoft Security Essentials: Used for six months, 2 infections. AVG: Used for six years, 1 infection. Norton: Used for two years, 1 infection. For my money, AVG seems to be the way to go. Quoted:

Microsoft Security Essentials I use this plus Avast and Malwarebytes. I've never had an issue and I travel all across the interwebs. This. I've had two viruses get through Microsoft Security Essentials in the last 30 days. One was mostly harmless, the other rendered the computer unusable (remapped *.exe file type among other things) and required cleanup by hand in safemode. Yeah, it's easy to use, but there's something seriously wrong when I've got foreign binaries running wild that got in through a browser. |

I've used it a couple times on other computers to clean out some kind of crazy virus/ trojan type thing. My computer isn't the one that gets infected so I usually just download to a flashdrive and install to the computer when someone asks me for help. |

Microsoft Security Essentials works great on our two computers.

Quoted: Microsoft Security Essentials +1. Unless you have a problem, there's no need for anything else. |
