Battle for Middle Earth 2.
I'm a big RTS fan. That one is by far my favorite as far as head-to-head gameplay goes. It had a very nice system of resource collection that rewarded map control rather than simply fighting over resource piles and the way the game worked made multi-prong attacks more valuable than simply micromanaging individual units. The only problem with the game was the terrible EA/Gamespy post-release support for online play, with frequent problems in the matchmaking process. If it had been a Steam game I'd probably still be playing it. (Battle for Middle Earth 1 was nothing to write home about.) |

Are you serious?
How is Company of Heroes not on there?!? I like starcraft and warcraft alot, but they left alot to be desired. I cant wait for the new SC to come out. I'll definitely give it a shot, but for now CoH is the one. ETA: Homeworld was awesome. Just not a ton of replayability or online support. Really need those for longevity. |

Hell yeah, Homeworld probably had the best story line of any RTS game. I've been thinking of breaking that out and playing the campaign again. awesome game. |

I loved playing my dad's old time Avalon Hill Board games - Midway was probably my favorite.
There's something about sitting across the table, competing head to head with someone in real life that cannot be replicated with an online game no matter how advanced the graphics. |

Quoted: If North Korea wants to have a chance at a successful invasion of South Korea, they should attack the day Starcraft 2 comes out. Haha. That game is a phenomenon over there. They have cartoons for it and everything. One of the few American-made exports that the Asian world has really went crazy over. |

Homeworld is the best computer game of all time. Bar none! (Still waiting for that movie deal I've been dreaming about for the last ten years.) Red Alert comes in second. You've got serious with RA1, Awesome comedy w/ RA2, and HD with RA3! (That reminds me, I need to go buy a copy ASAP!!!)

Cossacks was/is a great game. But the sequel was total and complete shit. Especially when playing against the AI instead of other humans, due to their amazing "sixth senses" about things and their total disregard for proper historical strategy.
Supreme Commander is quite good, and shows its TA lineage. It's not really fair to lump together the HW games. HW2 vastly reduced the scale from HW1 (and HWC). In space, that means a lot. To further illustrate the example, when I was working on a Macross conversion for HW1, we ended up with all of the ships at DOUBLE their canon sizes. Even still, the expanse of space was very large, and fighters were almost always represented as single pixels. I was involved in a similar effort for HW2... where we found that the "small" skirmish maps were completely unusable, as having capital ships at their Macross-canon sizes resulted in being able to immediately see the other player's flagship. Remember, we put the ships in HW1 at 2x scale and it would still take considerable time to be able to reach your opponent. The lack of scale in HW2 just fucks everything up - not to mention the lack of restrictions on ammo, fuel, etc. It's a shadow of the game that HW was. |
