The Bermuda Triangle is probably the most reliably debunked myth out there. There is nothing any more or less unique about the Bermuda Triangle than any other stretch of ocean.
The reason it SEEMS that more ships disppear there than anywhere else ( save a few ther places like the Devil's Triangle and the Great Lakes ) is the immense VOLUME of traffic in the area. Due to the geographical location, the gorgeous climate and numerous islands and cultures there is a HUGE amount of traffic ranging from pleasure craft, business, shipping, drug running and pirates ( arrg! yes, pirates ) int he area. Add it all up and you get a high rate of disappearances that are very noticable due to the ease of publicity common in the Americas. however if you AVERAGE the dispapearances out and compare them with the rest of the world....it all measures out per capita.
All of the "wierd" stuff you have ever heard about the Triangle was started by TWO very unreliable and nefarious authors, Charles Berlitz and Erick Von Danniken. Anything that either of those men has written can be considered nothing other than a flight of fancy. They have been reliably debunked by SEVERAL sources, including PBS' Nova back in the early eighties.
