So im looking at getting a bench grinder. It i wanted to turn it into a buffer can i just remove one of the grinding wheels and put on a buffing wheel? I see they make bench buffers but they say not to use them for grinding, im guessing because they dont have the safety windows that block crap from flying at your face |
You got it!!!! |
If you get a dressing stick/stone/wheel, you can true up the grinding wheels and everything will all smooth out. Just do light passes and be patient. |

Also, some buffers turn at a higher rpm than grinders, and the grinding wheels will come apart at these higher rpm's. You can put a buffer wheel on a grinder, but you should not put a grinding wheel on a buffer, unless the wheel is rated for the rpm range that the buffer turns. |
Amen to that. Being near an exploding grinding wheel once in my life was one too many times. A hunk of wheel went right through the sheetrock in the ceiling. The guy running the machine took a hunk to the chest and knocked him right off of his feet. |
